NIH Image to ImageJ: 25 years of image analysis

TLDR
The origins, challenges and solutions of NIH Image and ImageJ software are discussed, and how their history can serve to advise and inform other software projects.
Abstract
For the past 25 years NIH Image and ImageJ software have been pioneers as open tools for the analysis of scientific images. We discuss the origins, challenges and solutions of these two programs, and how their history can serve to advise and inform other software projects.

Size, Stability, and Porosity of Mesoporous Nanoparticles Characterized with Light Scattering

TL;DR: It is hypothesize that conventional light scattering (LS) methods can be used for a rigorous characterization of medium sensitive nanoparticles’ properties, like size, stability, and porosity, and suggest that the multiangle LS methods could be use for the size, Stability, and structure characterization of mesoporous nanoparticles.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hox-C9 activates the intrinsic pathway of apoptosis and is associated with spontaneous regression in neuroblastoma

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that expression of the majority of the human HOX class I homeobox genes is significantly associated with clinical covariates in neuroblastoma using microarray expression data of 649 primary tumors, and a HOX gene expression-based classifier predicted neuro blasts patient outcome independently of age, stage and MYCN amplification status.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microplastic contamination in east Antarctic sea ice

TL;DR: The preliminary results indicate that sea ice has the potential to serve as a reservoir for MP debris in the Southern Ocean, which may have consequences for Southern Ocean food webs and biogeochemistry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Translation repressors, an RNA helicase, and developmental cues control RNP phase transitions during early development.

TL;DR: It is shown that regulated RNP factor interactions drive transitions among diffuse, semiliquid, or solid states to modulate RNP sorting and exchange in the Caenorhabditis elegans oocyte cytoplasm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inactivation of Surface-Borne Microorganisms and Increased Germination of Seed Specimen by Cold Atmospheric Plasma

TL;DR: The results suggest that CAP technology has the potentiality to reduce health risks associated with contaminated seeds, while improving food quality.
