NIH Image to ImageJ: 25 years of image analysis

TLDR
The origins, challenges and solutions of NIH Image and ImageJ software are discussed, and how their history can serve to advise and inform other software projects.
Abstract
For the past 25 years NIH Image and ImageJ software have been pioneers as open tools for the analysis of scientific images. We discuss the origins, challenges and solutions of these two programs, and how their history can serve to advise and inform other software projects.

MicroRNA-339-5p Down-regulates Protein Expression of β-Site Amyloid Precursor Protein-Cleaving Enzyme 1 (BACE1) in Human Primary Brain Cultures and Is Reduced in Brain Tissue Specimens of Alzheimer Disease Subjects *

TL;DR: In this paper, the miR-339-5p target sites were predicted in the BACE1 3′-UTR by in silico analyses and co-transfection with a BACE 1 3′ -UTR reporter construct resulted in significant reduction in reporter expression.

Surface-Functionalized Porous Lignin for Fast and Efficient Lead Removal from Aqueous Solution.

TL;DR: It is shown that surface-functionalized porous lignin (SFPL), obtained by a two-step process, has a large surface area of 22.3 m2/g, 12 times that ofLignin, and a high density of dithiocarbamate groups (2.8 mmol/g).

A Comprehensive Subcellular Atlas of the Toxoplasma Proteome via hyperLOPIT Provides Spatial Context for Protein Functions

TL;DR: This work determines the steady-state subcellular location of thousands of proteins simultaneously within the globally prevalent apicomplexan parasite Toxoplasma gondii, and these data reveal the spatial organizations of protein expression and function, adaptation to hosts, and the underlying evolutionary trajectories of these pathogens.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rapid and reversible root growth inhibition by TIR1 auxin signalling

TL;DR: It is shown that Arabidopsis roots react to addition and removal of auxin by extremely rapid adaptation of growth rate, suggesting another, presumably non-transcriptional, signalling output of the canonical auxin pathway.
