NIH Image to ImageJ: 25 years of image analysis

TLDR
The origins, challenges and solutions of NIH Image and ImageJ software are discussed, and how their history can serve to advise and inform other software projects.
Abstract
For the past 25 years NIH Image and ImageJ software have been pioneers as open tools for the analysis of scientific images. We discuss the origins, challenges and solutions of these two programs, and how their history can serve to advise and inform other software projects.

Localized light-induced protein dimerization in living cells using a photocaged dimerizer

TL;DR: A new technique to rapidly and reversibly control protein localization in living cells with subcellular spatial resolution using a cell-permeable, photoactivatable chemical inducer of dimerization is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

On microstructure and mechanical properties of additively manufactured AlSi10Mg_200C using recycled powder

TL;DR: In this paper, the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of the DMLS-AlSi10Mg_200C alloy manufactured by recycled powder were investigated, and it was inferred that virgin and recycled powders had comparable powder characteristics, which are very different in comparison to the condensate powder.
Journal ArticleDOI

Breeding for increased nitrogen-use efficiency: A review for wheat (T. aestivum L.)

TL;DR: This review presents current knowledge of physiological, metabolic and genetic factors influencing nitrogen uptake and utilization in the context of different nitrogen management systems and the role of root system and its interactions with microorganisms, nitrate assimilation and its relationship with photosynthesis as postanthesis remobilization and nitrogen partitioning.
Journal ArticleDOI

A semisynthetic organism engineered for the stable expansion of the genetic alphabet

TL;DR: The optimized SSO grows robustly, constitutively imports the unnatural triphosphates, and is able to indefinitely retain multiple UBPs in virtually any sequence context, creating a form of life that can stably store genetic information using a six-letter, three-base-pair alphabet.
