NIH Image to ImageJ: 25 years of image analysis

TLDR
The origins, challenges and solutions of NIH Image and ImageJ software are discussed, and how their history can serve to advise and inform other software projects.
Abstract
For the past 25 years NIH Image and ImageJ software have been pioneers as open tools for the analysis of scientific images. We discuss the origins, challenges and solutions of these two programs, and how their history can serve to advise and inform other software projects.

Endoplasmic reticulum-plasma membrane contact sites integrate sterol and phospholipid regulation.

TL;DR: A model in which ER-PM contact sites provide a nexus for coordinating the complex interrelationship between sterols, sphingolipids, and phospholipIDS that maintain PM composition and integrity is supported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Flavonols Mediate Root Phototropism and Growth through Regulation of Proliferation-to-Differentiation Transition

TL;DR: It is proposed that flavonols function as positional signals, integrating hormonal and reactive oxygen species pathways to regulate root growth direction and rate in response to light, and are required for root light avoidance.

Membrane deformation and scission by the HSV-1 nuclear egress complex

TL;DR: It is reported that HSV-1 NEC alone is sufficient for membrane budding in vitro and thus represents a complete membrane deformation and scission machinery and functions as minimal virus-encoded membrane-budding machinery during nuclear egress and does not require additional cellular factors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biomarkers of neovascular activity in age-related macular degeneration using optical coherence tomography angiography

TL;DR: In this article, the qualitative and quantitative features of choroidal neovascular (NV) membranes in age-related macular degeneration using optical coherence tomography angiography in patients with active and quiescent NV lesions before and after treatment with anti-vascular endothelial growth fact
