NIH Image to ImageJ: 25 years of image analysis

TLDR
The origins, challenges and solutions of NIH Image and ImageJ software are discussed, and how their history can serve to advise and inform other software projects.
Abstract
For the past 25 years NIH Image and ImageJ software have been pioneers as open tools for the analysis of scientific images. We discuss the origins, challenges and solutions of these two programs, and how their history can serve to advise and inform other software projects.

Xylella fastidiosa outer membrane vesicles modulate plant colonization by blocking attachment to surfaces

TL;DR: Evidence is provided for a novel role for OMVs in Xylella fastidiosa, a bacterial pathogen that colonizes the xylem of important crop plants that block attachment-driven biofilm formation and contribute to the movement of other bacteria in porous environments by similarly reducing their contact with environmental constituents.

Loss of the multifunctional RNA-binding protein RBM47 as a source of selectable metastatic traits in breast cancer

TL;DR: This work identifies RBM47 as an RNA-binding protein that can suppress breast cancer progression and demonstrates how the inactivation of a broadly targeted RNA chaperone enables selection of a pro-metastatic state.
Journal ArticleDOI

Addition of m6A to SV40 late mRNAs enhances viral structural gene expression and replication.

TL;DR: It is argued that the addition of m6A residues to the late transcripts encoded by SV40 plays an important role in enhancing viral gene expression and, hence, replication.

Refractive Index Susceptibility of the Plasmonic Palladium Nanoparticle: Potential as the Third Plasmonic Sensing Material

TL;DR: It is concluded that the Pd nanoparticle is a promising candidate of "the third plasmonic sensing material" following Au and Ag to be used in ultrahigh-sensitive LSPR sensors.

Fitness of wAlbB Wolbachia Infection in Aedes aegypti: Parameter Estimates in an Outcrossed Background and Potential for Population Invasion.

TL;DR: This work focuses on the wAlbB infection in an Australian outbred background and shows that this infection has many features that facilitate its invasion into natural populations including strong cytoplasmic incompatibility, a lack of effect on larval development, an equivalent mating success to uninfected males and perfect maternal transmission fidelity.
