Abstract: The results produced by two multidisciplinary design optimization programs for the analysis and optimum design of a benchmark regional aircraft wing are compared. One of the programs uses a simple beam model and is suitable for conceptual design whereas the other uses a three-dimensional e nite element model and is suitable forpreliminary design. Results forstress, displacement, vibration, and e utter analyses of theinitial design cone guration show good agreement, as do those for optimization with stress and e utter constraints. However, optimization for a set of limiting wing twist displacements caused by aileron loading shows a 20% difference in design variablemass between the two models, with the preliminary design model producing thelower mass design. This can be explained by the ability of the detailed e nite element model to allow for chordwise variation in skin thickness and chordwise bending effects. Furthermore, the dee ection constraints used are obtained from a similar e niteelementmodel that hasbeen optimized for aileron efe ciency and therefore present particular problems when using the beam model, which does not allow for such chordwise variation.

TL;DR: In this paper, a mounting device for mounting electronic components of an unmanned helicopter is described, comprising a solid base plate having a circumferential outer edge and connecting means fixedly attached to said circumferent outer edge for reversibly connecting a flexible cover to the base plate.
Abstract: The invention refers to a mounting device (1) for mounting electronic components of an unmanned helicopter (22) comprising a solid base plate (2) having a circumferential outer edge (3), and connecting means (4) fixedly attached to said circumferential outer edge (3) for reversibly connecting a flexible cover (5) to said base plate. Mounting devices (1) of present invention protect grouped electronic components of the helicopter against harsh weather conditions like moist, salt, dirt, dust and wind.

TL;DR: In this paper, an elongated beam profile element (3) comprising a recess (15) provided for accommodating a support element (4) such as a power plant support was constructed.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for manufacture of an elongated beam profile element (3) comprising a recess (15) provided for accommodating a support element (4), such as a power plant support. The method being performed by forming the blank (28) into the web portion (23) with at least one first protrusion (21) formed to extend across the web portion (23) and to protrude outward from the web portion's (23) outer surface (35); and into the first flange portion (17) with at least one second protrusion (19) formed to extend across the first flange portion (17) and to protrude inward from the first flange portion's (17) inner surface (37), wherein this second protrusion (19) merges into the first protrusion (21) and constitutes said recess (15)ffor accommodating the support element under the wing.

TL;DR: In this paper, a drive shaft (7) containing a core of carbon fiber composite (7a) with a longitudinally through-passing cavity was proposed for overvoltage protection in a wind turbine.
Abstract: The invention concerns a device for overvoltage protection in a wind turbine comprising a drive shaft (7) that is arranged to operatively connect one or a plurality of rotor blades (12) to a generator (9). The invention includes a drive shaft (7) containing a core of carbon fiber composite (7a) with a longitudinally through-passing cavity. In one end a connector (5) for a hub (4) that connects the rotor blades (12) is arranged to be introduced, and in the other end a coupling part (10) to the generator (9) is arranged to be introduced. An inner layer of fiberglass composite (7b), which is integrated with a core of carbon fiber composite (7a) in the drive shaft (7), surrounds the cavity and is arranged so as to electrically insulate the connector (5) and the coupling (10) from the drive shaft (7), which is electrically connected to ground.

TL;DR: In this article, a TDMA-based self-organizing transmission algorithm is proposed for wireless communication systems where services involving two or more stations in the system may be activated automatically, where the data is transmitted in time slots organized in frames of a repeating frame structure.
Abstract: Wireless communication systems wherein services involving two or more stations in the system may be activated automatically. Data is communicated between airborne stations according to a TDMA protocol, where the data is transmitted in time slots organized in frames of a repeating frame structure. A link address is associated with at least one time slot. The stations select link addresses for transmission of data according to a self-organizing transmission algorithm. Each station broadcasts data messages of a first type at a first repetition rate and receives such corresponding messages from the other stations. At least based on the received data messages of the first type, each station determines whether a service activation criterion is fulfilled with respect to at least one other station. If the service activation criterion is fulfilled, the station starts to transmit data messages of a second type, which pertain to a service that involves the station itself and the at least one other station.
