TL;DR: In this article, the decision support unit receives one or more automatic radar tracking parameters from the radar system, uses the decision parameters on the radar tracking parameter to decide upon which radar target(s) to be subjected to observation by the optical image producing system.
Abstract: An avionics system including a radar system being capable of automatically tracking a radar target, an optical image producing system, a radar monitor, an optical image monitor, a decision support unit having a connection to the radar system and to the optical image producing system, and an input/output unit for entering one or more decision parameters. The decision support unit is connected to the input/output unit. During a flight mission the decision support unit receives one or more automatic radar tracking parameters from the radar system, uses the decision parameters on the radar tracking parameters to decide upon which radar target(s) to be subjected to observation by the optical image producing system.

06 Jul 2009TL;DR: In this paper, two conceptually different multi-target tracking algorithms are evaluated, namely a multiple-hypothesis tracking (MHT) algorithm and the Gaussian mixture cardinalized probability hypothesis density (GM-CPHD) filter.
Abstract: Performance evaluations of multi-target tracking algorithms are often limited to consider comparisons within the same algorithm family. In this paper, two conceptually different multi-target tracking algorithms are evaluated, namely a multiple-hypothesis tracking (MHT) algorithm and the Gaussian mixture cardinalized probability hypothesis density (GM-CPHD) filter. As a reference, a conventional single-hypothesis tracking algorithm is included in the evaluation. The performance is assessed using the root-mean square error of the estimated number of targets, and the recently published Optimal Subpattern Assignment (OSPA) measure. The scenario under consideration is tracking of nine closely spaced ground targets, using simulated measurements from an airborne radar. By observing the estimation of the number of targets, as well as of the target states, conclusions are drawn regarding the behavior of MHT and GM-CPHD. For example, GM-CPHD is more responsive to changes in the number of targets, whereas MHT is less responsive, but produces a more stable output.

11 Jun 2006TL;DR: In this article, Fault Tree Analysis is used to analyze a possible top event such as a malfunction for a primary rudder function in a UAV for flights in populated areas. But the authors focus on the feasibility of evaluating risks and the impact of a failure in a specific component regardless of where in the system the component is located.
Abstract: More Electric Aircraft technology enables the power supply of flight critical equipment such as the electronic flight control system In the process of designing an Electric Power Supply System in an aircraft, system safety and reliability are key requirements. Other important factors are low weight and low life cycle costs (LCC). Fault Tree Analysis is used to analyze a possible top event such as a malfunction for a primary rudder function. In a complicated design, a malfunction can be caused by a number of failures in different equipments or systems. The objective with the presented work is the feasibility of evaluating risks and the impact of a failure in a specific component, regardless of where in the system the component is located. The system is assumed to be part of an UAV for flights in populated areas.

16 Jul 2009TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method to minimize the influence of interference sources by control of the signal to noise/interference ratio, SNR, of a wideband antenna system connected to an electronic system.
Abstract: The invention provides a method to minimise the influence of interference sources by control of the Signal to Noise/interference Ratio, SNR, of a wideband antenna system connected to an electronic system. The wideband antenna system comprises at least one array of at least two antenna elements/sub arrays. The SNR control comprises establishing of cancellation directions for interfering frequencies in the antenna pattern in the direction of interference sources. The wideband antenna system is operational over a system bandwidth and operates with an instantaneous bandwidth B. Estimation of interference source parameters is performed in an evaluation process. The invention also provides a wideband antenna system implementing the method.
