Abstract: A standard Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) filter paper test was used to assess the acute toxicity of chlorpyrifos, atrazine, cyanazine, and simazine to the earthworm Eisenia fetida. Acute toxicity of chlorpyrifos was also determined in combination with the three-triazine herbicides. Surprisingly, atrazine and cyanazine caused mortality at concentrations lower than chlorpyrifos. Atrazine and cyanazine also increased the toxicity of chlorpyrifos 7.9- and 2.2-fold, respectively. However, simazine caused no toxicity to the worms and did not affect chlorpyrifos toxicity in binary mixture experiments. Possible mechanisms for the greater-than-additive toxicity for the binary combinations of atrazine and cyanazine with chlorpyrifos were investigated, including changes in uptake and biotransformation rates of chlorpyrifos in the presence of atrazine. Uptake of chlorpyrifos into the worms decreased slightly when atrazine was present in the system, therefore eliminating increased uptake as a possible explanation for the increased toxicity. Body residue analysis of worms indicated increased metabolite formation, suggesting the greater-than-additive response may be due to increased biotransformation to more toxic oxon metabolites.

Abstract: This article presents an integrative model for selecting a progression of therapist styles as clients move through developmental stages during the course of counseling and psychotherapy. The model, Adaptive Counseling and Therapy (ACT), suggests an eclectic approach to the utilization of techniques in therapy. The ACT approach is compared and contrasted with other integrative models that suggest an eclectic practice of therapy, with both similarities and divergent recommendations being noted. ACT is intended to be useful to practitioners in case conceptualization and in the application of effective treatment planning. The assessment instruments required to operationalize the central constructs of ACT theory are presented and described, and data on both the instruments' psychometric adequacy and the relationship of ACT constructs to therapy outcome are reviewed. Finally, the ways in which ACT can serve as a rich heuristic device for counseling practice, research, and supervision are delineated.

Abstract: Cyber-enabled operation is needed for smart distribution system implementation. The interaction of cyber and power components will affect system reliability. This paper focuses on developing an analytical reliability model for fault detection, isolation, and service restoration for smart distribution feeders. The impact of end-to-end outage probability of data communication along with sending, receiving, and relaying communication node failures is incorporated into the model. Vulnerability of system to cyber attack as an emerging cause of reliability degradation is also investigated. An optimal placement of fault detectors and switching devices are determined in this work to improve reliability. The sum of customer service interruption cost and investment cost is considered as an objective function to be minimized. Bus 2 of the Roy Billinton test system and a typical 27-node distribution network are used to illustrate the role of communication infrastructure malfunction on the planning problem in a distribution feeder. Results and discussions show the necessity of incorporating communication infrastructure failure into the power distribution system planning problem.
