TLDR
The results strengthen the clinical evidence that AD is accompanied by an inflammatory response, particularly higher peripheral concentrations of IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1β, TGF-β,IL-12 and IL-18 and higher CSF concentrations of T GF-β.

Associations of cytokine genes with Alzheimer's disease and depression in an elderly Korean population

TL;DR: The present findings support the inflammatory hypothesis in the aetiology of AD as measured by several cytokine genes associated with increased proinflammatory cytokine production.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chronic Stress and Oxidative Stress as Common Factors of the Pathogenesis of Depression and Alzheimer’s Disease: The Role of Antioxidants in Prevention and Treatment

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of the relationship between chronic stress, oxidative stress, and changes in the brain they cause occurring in Alzheimer's disease is presented, and the most promising results in AD treatment were observed for Vitamin E, coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), melatonin, polyphenols, curcumin, and selenium.

DMARD use is associated with a higher risk of dementia in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: A propensity score-matched case–control study

TL;DR: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis who used csDMARDs exhibited a 1.63‐fold higher risk of dementia than did those who did not use cs DMARDs, and patients with RA who used hydroxychloroquine, methotrexate, and sulfasalazine exhibited significant risks of dementia, irrespective of cumulative exposure days.

Ultrasensitive Immunosensor Array for TNF-α Detection in Artificial Saliva using Polymer-Coated Magnetic Microparticles onto Screen-Printed Gold Electrode.

TL;DR: The development of an immunosensor array based on eight screen-printed gold electrodes to detect TNF-α in saliva samples showed good performance within the clinically relevant concentration range, with a precision of 8%, and a limit of detection of 0.3 pg/mL.
Journal ArticleDOI

Similarity and Differences in Inflammation-Related Characteristics of the Peripheral Immune System of Patients with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Diseases.

TL;DR: This mini-review compares the association of PD and AD alterations of a number of immune system parameters connected with the process of inflammation and suggests that pathogenesis of these diseases is connected with both regional and peripheral immune processes.

Bias in meta-analysis detected by a simple, graphical test

TL;DR: Funnel plots, plots of the trials' effect estimates against sample size, are skewed and asymmetrical in the presence of publication bias and other biases Funnel plot asymmetry, measured by regression analysis, predicts discordance of results when meta-analyses are compared with single large trials.

Quantifying heterogeneity in a meta‐analysis

TL;DR: It is concluded that H and I2, which can usually be calculated for published meta-analyses, are particularly useful summaries of the impact of heterogeneity, and one or both should be presented in publishedMeta-an analyses in preference to the test for heterogeneity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Operating characteristics of a rank correlation test for publication bias.

TL;DR: In this paper, an adjusted rank correlation test is proposed as a technique for identifying publication bias in a meta-analysis, and its operating characteristics are evaluated via simulations, and the test statistic is a direct statistical analogue of the popular funnel-graph.
