TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.

Effects of kainic acid on glutatione and nitrite in rat hippocampus

TL;DR: It is concluded that in kainic acid treated rats oxidative stress could be present even after a single treatment, which could be a potentially pathogenic factor for further brain damages.

Implications for the Metabolic Fate of Oral Glutamine Supplementation within Plasma and Erythrocytes of Patients with Sickle Cell Disease: A Pharmacokinetics Study.

TL;DR: In this paper , a pharmacokinetics (pK) study was performed to determine the metabolic fate of glutamine supplementation on plasma and erythrocyte amino acids in patients with SCD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Detoxification mechanisms in autism spectrum disorders

A El-Ansary
TL;DR: The sulphur redox-related abnormalities indicate that mercury and lead intoxication was associated with increased oxidative stress and decreased detoxification capacity, which could help in tailoring a combined treatment strategy that could help to reduce the increased prevalence of the disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of oral glutamine and glucose on markers of oxidative stress in a paraquat rat model

TL;DR: In the presence of all metabolic interactions, an organ-specific effect of substrate administration is shown, the G ln optimized plasma glutathione, protecting the hepatic tissue against oxidative damages.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)

TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
