Biologic and pharmacologic regulation of mammalian glutathione synthesis.
TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.About:

Development of an amperometric biosensor based on glutathione peroxidase immobilized in a carbodiimide matrix for the analysis of reduced glutathione from serum.
TL;DR: The development of an amperometric biosensor for the reduced glutathione determination in serum showed a good correlation with the results from the spectrophotometric method (Ellman's reagent) used as reference, presenting relative deviations lower than 7.0%.

CoQ deficiency causes disruption of mitochondrial sulfide oxidation, a new pathomechanism associated with this syndrome
Marta Luna-Sánchez,Agustín Hidalgo-Gutiérrez,Tatjana M. Hildebrandt,Julio Chaves-Serrano,Eliana Barriocanal-Casado,Ángela Santos-Fandila,Miguel Romero,Ramy K. A. Sayed,Ramy K. A. Sayed,Juan Duarte,Holger Prokisch,Markus Schuelke,Felix Distelmaier,Germaine Escames,Darío Acuña-Castroviejo,Luis C. López +15 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that severe CoQ deficiency causes a reduction in SQR levels and activity, which leads to an alteration of mitochondrial sulfide metabolism and the blood pressure is reduced.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of a glutathione metabolic mutant of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and its resistance to glutathione and nitrosoglutathione
TL;DR: A mutant strain of Mycobacterium tuberculosis lacking gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase is created and the sensitivity of this strain to glutathione and S-nitrosoglutathione is investigated compared to that of the wild-type bacteria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inactivation of soluble guanylate cyclase by stoichiometric S-nitrosation.
Bernd Mayer,Andrei L. Kleschyov,Heike Stessel,Michael Russwurm,Thomas Münzel,Doris Koesling,Kurt Schmidt +6 more
TL;DR: Protection by physiologically relevant concentrations of GSH suggests that S-nitrosation of sGC may contribute to vascular dysfunction in inflammatory disorders associated with nitrosative and oxidative stress and GSH depletion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resistance of leishmania donovani to sodium stibogluconate is related to the expression of host and parasite gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase
Katharine C. Carter,S. Hutchison,Fiona L. Henriquez,Danielle Légaré,Marc Ouellette,Craig W. Roberts,Alexander B. Mullen +6 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that SSG resistance is associated with manipulation of both host and parasite GSH levels by L. donovani, and indicates that environmental conditions have a profound effect on γ-GCS expression.

Antioxidant and Redox Regulation of Gene Transcription
Chandan K. Sen,Lester Packer +1 more
TL;DR: The efficacy of different antioxidants to favorably influence the molecular mechanisms implicated in human disease should be a critical determinant of its selection for clinical studies.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)
TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
