TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.

Journal ArticleDOI

L-cysteine influx in erythrocytes as a function of human age.

TL;DR: A significant decline in the influx of L-cysteine in erythrocytes during aging in humans is shown and the decrease correlates with the decrease in antioxidant potential of plasma measured in terms of FRAP (ferric-reducing ability of plasma) during aging.
Journal ArticleDOI

Age affects ERK1/2 and NRF2 signaling in the regulation of GCLC expression.

TL;DR: Opposition effects of Nrf2 and ERK1/2 signaling in the modulation of GCLC expression in old animals are suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determination of glutathione in single human hepatocarcinoma cells by capillary electrophoresis with electrochemical detection.

TL;DR: The average amount of GSH in an individual HH cell is 22.3+/-5.8 fmol (mean+/-standard deviation), which is consistent with that of its homogenate.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of (R)-(-)-5-methyl-1-nicotinoyl-2-pyrazoline on glutamate transporter 1 and cysteine/glutamate exchanger as well as ethanol drinking behavior in male, alcohol-preferring rats.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of a synthetic compound, (R)-(-)-5-methyl-1-nicotinoyl-2-pyrazoline (MS-153), on ethanol drinking and expressions of GLT-1 and xCT in the amygdala and the hippocampus of P rats were examined.
Journal ArticleDOI

Non-viral nucleic acid containing nanoparticles as cancer therapeutics

TL;DR: Non-viral nanoparticles are a promising class of nucleic acid carriers that can be designed to be safer and more versatile than traditional viral vectors that hold promise for genetic medicine to treat diseases like cancer in the clinic.

Antioxidant and Redox Regulation of Gene Transcription

TL;DR: The efficacy of different antioxidants to favorably influence the molecular mechanisms implicated in human disease should be a critical determinant of its selection for clinical studies.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)

TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
