- Vol. 27, Iss: 9, pp 922-935
TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.

Multidrug Resistance Protein 4 (MRP4/ABCC4) Protects Cells from the Toxic Effects of Halobenzoquinones

TL;DR: A role for MRP4 in cellular protection against HBQ DBP-induced toxicity and oxidative stress is demonstrated and the GSH-dependent protection of cells from HBQs supports the possibility of HBQ-GSH conjugate efflux by MRP 4.
Journal ArticleDOI

Long-term cysteine fortification impacts cysteine/glutathione homeostasis and food intake in ageing rats

TL;DR: Doubling the dietary intake of Cysteine in old rats increased cysteine and glutathione pools in selected tissues and alleviated the age-related decline in food intake, thus alleviating age-associated low-grade inflammation and resulting in global physiological benefits.
Journal ArticleDOI

Protection from Oxidative Stress in Immunocytes of the Colonial Ascidian Botryllus schlosseri: Transcript Characterization and Expression Studies

TL;DR: Results indicated that i) antioxidant gene expression is modulated in the course of the blastogenetic cycle and upon exposure to Cd, and ii) hemocytes synthesize both enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants, in line with the idea that they represent a major detoxification system for ascidians.

Neuregulin1 Attenuates H 2 O 2-Induced Reductions in EAAC1 Protein Levels and Reduces H 2 O 2-Induced Oxidative Stress

TL;DR: A role for NRG1 in protecting against oxidative stress via the regulation of EAAC1 is indicated, which may provide novel insights into the mechanisms ofNRG1 activity during oxidative stress and may reveal new therapeutic targets for regulating the oxidative stress associated with various neurological diseases.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)

TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
