TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.

Laminar shear stress inhibits lipid peroxidation induced by high glucose plus arachidonic acid in endothelial cells

TL;DR: It is suggested that LSS enhances antioxidant capacity of endothelial cells and thereby attenuates the oxidative stress caused by cardiovascular risk factors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cell-specific regulation of gamma-glutamylcysteine synthetase in human interstitial lung diseases.

TL;DR: Gamma-GCS is widely expressed in sarcoidosis and regenerating epithelium but is low in the fibrotic areas of usual interstitial pneumonia, probably because of enzyme down-regulation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of the redox chemistry of sulfur- and selenium-containing analogs of uracil.

TL;DR: The results of the study of these model nucleobases suggest that the use of 2‐selenouridine is related to resistance to oxidative inactivation that otherwise characterizes 2‐thiouridine.

Metabolic and Glutathione Redox Markers Associated with Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor in Depressed African Men and Women: Evidence for Counterregulation?

TL;DR: In this paper, the National Research Foundation (NRF), North-West University, Potchefstroom, South Africa, and the Metabolic Syndrome Institute, France, provided the funding for the study.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glutamate excitotoxicity: Potential therapeutic target for ischemic stroke.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors highlight recent findings on glutamate release, reuptake mechanisms, NMDAR and its downstream cellular signaling pathways in post-ischemic stroke damage, and review the pathological changes in each link to help develop viable new therapeutic targets.

Antioxidant and Redox Regulation of Gene Transcription

TL;DR: The efficacy of different antioxidants to favorably influence the molecular mechanisms implicated in human disease should be a critical determinant of its selection for clinical studies.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)

TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
