TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.

Radicals produced by blue-light-resin interactions alter the redox status of THP1 human monocytes.

TL;DR: The results suggest that CQ and DMPT pose risks to pulpal tissues with or without blue light irradiation, and that multiple, interacting mechanisms shape the response to these agents.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantifying Reduced Glutathione by Square-wave Voltammetry

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the use of square wave voltammetry (SWV) to quantify reduced glutathione (GSH) dissolved in phosphate buffer (pH 7.5) using a static mercury drop electrode (working), Ag/AgCl electrode (standard) and a platinum wire (auxiliary).

The role of cardiac mitochondria in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury

TL;DR: It is found that physiologic (exercise) and pharmacologic interventions that lessen the oxidative burden during ischemia/reperfusion have the potential to limit myocardial infarction and treatment with the mitochondrially-targeted peptide Bendavia was successful at lowering infarct size in isolated guinea pig hearts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metabolomics and psychological features in fibromyalgia and electromagnetic sensitivity

TL;DR: Investigation of the blood plasma metabolome in IEI-EMF and healthy subjects using 1H NMR spectroscopy coupled with multivariate statistical analysis allowed the identification of a distinct metabolic profile between IEi-EMf and healthySubjects, which were characterized by higher levels of glycine and pyroglutamate, and lower levels of 2-hydroxyisocaproate compared to healthy subjects.

High Performance Liquid Chromatography Coupled with Pre-column Derivatization for Determination of Oxidized Glutathione Level in Rats Exposed to Paraquat

TL;DR: A new HPLC method with fluorescence detection based on derivatization of the amine group of glutathione with 9-fluorenylmethyl chloroformate (FMOC-Cl) was developed and made it possible to measure small amounts of glutATHione in plasma using a precise and sensitive technique.

Antioxidant and Redox Regulation of Gene Transcription

TL;DR: The efficacy of different antioxidants to favorably influence the molecular mechanisms implicated in human disease should be a critical determinant of its selection for clinical studies.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)

TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
