TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.

The x(c)- cystine/glutamate antiporter: a potential target for therapy of cancer and other diseases.

TL;DR: This review focuses on the expression and function of the x c− transporter in cells and tissues with particular emphasis on its role in disease pathogenesis and the potential use ofx ”c− inhibitors for arresting tumor growth and/or sensitizing cancers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glutathione Metabolism and Parkinson’s Disease

TL;DR: The synthesis, metabolism, and functional interactions of glutathione are examined and how these relate to the protection of dopaminergic neurons from oxidative damage and its therapeutic potential in Parkinson disease are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structure, function, and post-translational regulation of the catalytic and modifier subunits of glutamate cysteine ligase

TL;DR: Variability in GCL expression is associated with several disease phenotypes and transgenic mouse and rat models promise to be highly useful for investigating the relationships between GCL activity, GSH synthesis, and disease in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI

High oxidative damage levels in the longest-living rodent, the naked mole-rat

TL;DR: The findings strongly suggest that mechanisms other than attenuated oxidative stress explain the impressive longevity of the naked mole‐rat and that NMRs live an order of magnitude longer than predicted based on their body size.
Journal ArticleDOI

Layer‐By‐Layer‐Assembled Capsules and Films for Therapeutic Delivery

TL;DR: This review highlights important and recent studies that advance the use of LbL-assembled materials as therapeutic devices and seeks to identify areas that require additional investigation for future development of the field.

Antioxidant and Redox Regulation of Gene Transcription

TL;DR: The efficacy of different antioxidants to favorably influence the molecular mechanisms implicated in human disease should be a critical determinant of its selection for clinical studies.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)

TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
