- Vol. 27, Iss: 9, pp 922-935
TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.

The changing faces of glutathione, a cellular protagonist

TL;DR: The significance of GSH as a major factor in regulation of cell life, proliferation, and death, should be regarded as the integrated result of all these roles it can play.

Identification of Nrf2-regulated genes induced by the chemopreventive agent sulforaphane by oligonucleotide microarray.

TL;DR: This investigation expands the horizon of Nrf2-regulated genes, highlights the cross-talk between various metabolic pathways, and divulges the pivotal role played by NRF2 in regulating cellular defenses against carcinogens and other toxins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glutathione in Cancer Biology and Therapy

TL;DR: An analysis of links among GSH, adaptive responses to stress, molecular mechanisms of invasive cancer cell survival and death, and sensitization of metastatic cells to therapy shows that acceleration of GSH efflux facilitates selective GSH depletion in metastasis cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cellular glutathione and thiols metabolism.

TL;DR: It is the aim that this commentary will lead the reader to appreciate that studies investigating the signaling for and regulation of thiol metabolism must never be generalized, and that perturbations in any of step ofThioredoxin and glutathione metabolism may have etiological roles in genetically, virally, and environmentally borne pathologies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Regulation of protein function by S-glutathiolation in response to oxidative and nitrosative stress.

TL;DR: A review of recent work supporting a role for S-glutathiolation in stress signalling pathways and in the adaptive cellular response to oxidative and nitrosative stress and the molecular mechanisms of protein regulation by oxidative andNitrosative thiol-group modifications are outlined.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)

TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
