Owen W. Griffith
- 01 Nov 1999 -
- Vol. 27, Iss: 9, pp 922-935
TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.

Skeletal muscle wasting occurs in adult rats under chronic treatment with paracetamol when glutathione-dependent detoxification is highly activated.

TL;DR: Without dietary sulphur amino acid increase, peripheral bioavailability of Cys and muscle GSH are potential players in the control of muscle mass under chronic treatment with APAP, an analgesic medication of widespread use, especially in the elderly.
Journal ArticleDOI

Camptothecin delivery into hepatoma cell line by galactose-appended fluorescent drug delivery system

TL;DR: A galactose-appended camptothecin prodrug was newly synthesized and preferentially entered a hepatoma cell line and the drug release triggered by disulfide-bond cleavage via reaction with glutathione was visualized on the basis of fluorescence changes of the naphthalimide moiety.

Organic insecticide spinosad causes in vivo oxidative effects in the brain of Oreochromis niloticus

TL;DR: It was suggested that spinosad‐induced free‐radicals were eliminated by GSH‐related antioxidant system in the brain of Oreochromis niloticus as a model organism.

Electronic Spectroscopy and Computational Studies of Glutathionylco(III)balamin

TL;DR: The absolute optical spectral simulation calculations were compared with the experimental UV-visible extinction spectrum and the electronic circular dichroism (ECD) differential extinction spectrum, and the best fit was found for a GS-Cbl model with 5,6-dimethylbenzimidazole at the BP86/6-311G(d,p) level with a water cpcm solvent model.

Multiple factors conferring high radioresistance in insect Sf9 cells.

TL;DR: The single-cell electrophoresis technique revealed that Sf9 cells showed lower x-ray irradiation-induced DNA damage as well as better efficiency at repairing these damages, in which the higher intracellular level of reduced glutathione seemed to play a major role.

Antioxidant and Redox Regulation of Gene Transcription

TL;DR: The efficacy of different antioxidants to favorably influence the molecular mechanisms implicated in human disease should be a critical determinant of its selection for clinical studies.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)

TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
