Journal ArticleDOI
Biologic and pharmacologic regulation of mammalian glutathione synthesis.
TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.About:

Journal ArticleDOI
Oxidative stress increases SNAT1 expression and stimulates cysteine uptake in freshly isolated rat cardiomyocytes
TL;DR: Under control conditions SNAT transporters aid in the delivery of cysteine for cardiomyocyte GSH synthesis, whilst oxidative stress increasesCardiomyocytes cysteines uptake and stimulates carduomyocyte SNAT1 expression.

The Effects of Dietary Sulfur Amino Acid Deficiency on Rat Brain Glutathione Concentration and Neural Damage in Global Hemispheric Hypoxia-Ischemia
P. Joan Bobyn,Jodi L. Franklin,Cindy M. Wall,James A. Thornhill,Bernhard H.J. Juurlink,Phyllis G. Paterson +5 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that well-nourished but not 'deficient' animals tolerate a mild brain insult, and the decline in brain glutathione in the "deficient" animals may be one of several contributing mechanisms.

Glutathione deficiency down-regulates hepatic lipogenesis in rats
Corinna Brandsch,Tobias Schmidt,Diana Behn,Kristin Weiße,Andreas S. Mueller,Gabriele I. Stangl +5 more
TL;DR: This study shows that glutathione deficiency lowers hepatic triglyceride concentrations via influencing lipogenesis, and the reduced activity of PTP1B and the higher concentration of irreversible oxidized PTP 1B could be, at least in part, responsible for this effect.
Journal ArticleDOI
The difference of glutathione antioxidant system in newly weaned and young mice liver and its involvement in isoline-induced hepatotoxicity
Qingning Liang,Qingning Liang,Yuchen Sheng,Ping Jiang,Lili Ji,Yuye Xia,Yang Min,Zhengtao Wang +7 more
TL;DR: The results revealed age-dependent liver injury induced by isoline for the first time, which might be due to the different responses of glutathione antioxidant system to isoline between newly weaned and young mice.

Effects of 837 and 1950 MHz radiofrequency radiation exposure alone or combined on oxidative stress in MCF10A cells
Mi Na Hong,Bong Cho Kim,Young Gyu Ko,Yun Sil Lee,Seung Cheol Hong,Tae-Hong Kim,Jeong Ki Pack,Hyung-Do Choi,Nam Kim,Jae Seon Lee +9 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that single or multiple RF radiation exposure did not elicit oxidative stress in MCF10A cells under the authors' exposure conditions.

Antioxidant and Redox Regulation of Gene Transcription
Chandan K. Sen,Lester Packer +1 more
TL;DR: The efficacy of different antioxidants to favorably influence the molecular mechanisms implicated in human disease should be a critical determinant of its selection for clinical studies.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)
TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
