- Vol. 27, Iss: 9, pp 922-935
TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.

Hydrolytically and Reductively Degradable High-Molecular-Weight Poly(ethylene glycol)s

TL;DR: Reductively degradable multiblock polymers for gene and drug delivery were synthesised by oxidative polycondensation of poly(ethylene glycol)-cysteine derivatives containing ester or urethane bonds by studying hydrolysis rate of polymer esters and reduction with glutathione and dithiothreitol.
Journal ArticleDOI

Roles of intracellular and extracellular ROS formation in apoptosis induced by cold atmospheric helium plasma and X-irradiation in the presence of sulfasalazine

TL;DR: The results suggest that IR‐induced apoptosis is due to specific and effective ROS distribution since intracellular ROS formation is marginal and the high production of ROS inside and outside of cells plays unique roles in He‐CAP induced apoptosis.

Ginsenoside Rb1 Blocks Ritonavir-Induced Oxidative Stress and eNOS Downregulation through Activation of Estrogen Receptor-Beta and Upregulation of SOD in Human Endothelial Cells

TL;DR: This study explored a mechanism by which ginsenoside Rb1 could protect endothelial cells via binding of estrogen receptors (ERs) and found that several human endothelial cell lines differentially expressed ER-β and had very low levels of ER-α.
Journal ArticleDOI

Combined effects of coenzyme Q10 and Vitamin E in cadmium induced alterations of antioxidant defense system in the rat heart

TL;DR: The obtained results support the assumption that CoQ(10) and Vit E functions cooperatively with endogenous antioxidants and diminished toxic effects of Cd in rat heart.
Journal ArticleDOI

Do male and female gammarids defend themselves differently during chemical stress

TL;DR: The influence of gender on the detoxification response, energy reserves, and biomarker of toxic effects in Gammarus roeseli exposed to cadmium supports the importance of taking into account the gender in ecotoxicological studies to have an overview of xenobiotics effects on a population.

Antioxidant and Redox Regulation of Gene Transcription

TL;DR: The efficacy of different antioxidants to favorably influence the molecular mechanisms implicated in human disease should be a critical determinant of its selection for clinical studies.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)

TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
