TLDR
Because GSH plays a critical role in cellular defenses against electrophiles, oxidative stress and nitrosating species, pharmacologic manipulation of GSH synthesis has received much attention.

Activation of transsulfuration pathway by salvianolic acid a treatment: a homocysteine-lowering approach with beneficial effects on redox homeostasis in high-fat diet-induced hyperlipidemic rats

TL;DR: The results suggest that activation of transsulfuration pathway by Sal A is a promising homocysteine-lowering approach that has beneficial effects on redox homeostasis in hyperlipidemic settings.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of endophyte consumption and heat stress on intravaginal temperatures, plasma lipid oxidation, blood selenium, and glutathione redox of mononuclear cells in heifers grazing tall fescue.

TL;DR: A grazing experiment was conducted to assess the effects of wild-type endophyte-infected (E+) tall fescue consumption and elevated ambient temperatures on intravaginal temperatures, plasma lipid peroxidation, and glutathione redox of peripheral blood mononuclear cells as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Selenium and rutin alone or in combination do not have stronger protective effects than their separate effects against cadmium-induced renal damage.

TL;DR: RUT and Se function as potent antioxidant in the protection of renal damage induced by Cd, and their combine effects do not have stronger effects than their separate effect against Cd-induced renal damage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modulation of KATP currents in rat ventricular myocytes by hypoxia and a redox reaction

TL;DR: Electrophysiological evidence that hypoxia and the oxidizing reaction are closely related to the modulation of IKATP is provided, suggesting that the effects of both GSSG and hypoxIA on KATP channels involve the activation of the PKC, PKG, and CaMK II pathways.
Journal ArticleDOI

Intraluminal hydrogen peroxide induces a permeability change of the endoplasmic reticulum membrane

TL;DR: It is assumed that Gulonolactone‐dependent luminal hydrogen peroxide formation in the endoplasmic reticulum provokes a temporary increase in non‐selective membrane permeability, which results in the dilation of the organelle and in enhanced transmembrane fluxes of small molecules.

Antioxidant and Redox Regulation of Gene Transcription

TL;DR: The efficacy of different antioxidants to favorably influence the molecular mechanisms implicated in human disease should be a critical determinant of its selection for clinical studies.

Efficacy of oral N-acetylcysteine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. Analysis of the national multicenter study (1976 to 1985)

TL;DR: It is concluded that N-acetylcysteine treatment should be started within eight hours of an acetaminophen overdose, but that treatment is still indicated at least as late as 24 hours after ingestion, and it may be superior when treatment is delayed.
