Contribution of platelets to tumour metastasis.
TLDR
Contributions of platelets to tumour cell survival and spread suggest platelets as a new avenue for therapy.Abstract:
Experimental evidence suggests that platelets contribute to metastasis through adhesive and haemostatic functions that promote cancer cell survival, immune evasion and interactions with vascular cells to assist organ colonization from the bloodstream. Extensive experimental evidence shows that platelets support tumour metastasis. The activation of platelets and the coagulation system have a crucial role in the progression of cancer. Within the circulatory system, platelets guard tumour cells from immune elimination and promote their arrest at the endothelium, supporting the establishment of secondary lesions. These contributions of platelets to tumour cell survival and spread suggest platelets as a new avenue for therapy.read more

The Fibrinogen to Mean Platelet Volume Ratio Can Predict Overall Survival of Patients with Non-Metastatic Gastric Cancer.
TL;DR: Elevated fibrinogen, platelets, and MPV levels were in accordance with advanced stages, and fibr inogen, Platelet, andMPV, in combination, can be used to predict survival of patients with non-metastatic GC.

Inhibition of the interactions between metastatic human breast cancer cells and platelets by β-nitrostyrene derivatives.
TL;DR: Two β-nitrostyrene derivatives have been tested for their inhibitory effect on platelet activation caused by metastatic human breast cancer MDA-MB-231 and Hs578T cells, suggesting the initial cancer-platelet interactions are inhibited.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors attempted to correlate CTC numbers in men with advanced prostate cancer with platelet counts and circulating lymphocyte numbers and showed that CTCs engage in complex interactions with the coagulation cascade and innate immune system during intravascular transit, and they present an attractive target for directed therapy at a vulnerable stage in metastasis.
