Journal ArticleDOI

Screening for anxiety symptoms in Parkinson disease: a cross-sectional study.

TL;DR: Female gender, motor disability, and core depression symptoms were the main markers of anxiety in patients with PD, and the HARS had a satisfactory inter-item correlation, convergent validity, and factorial structure.
Journal ArticleDOI

Environmental factors and Parkinson's disease: a case-control study in Belgrade, Serbia.

TL;DR: The role of environmental factors in the occurence of PD is supported, and exposure to insecticides, dyes, and naphtha and its derivates was positively associated with exposure to Parkinson's disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Psychiatric symptoms screening in the early stages of Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: A high prevalence of psychiatric complaints in PD patients, mostly related to depression, anxiety, somatization and OCS is found, suggesting a different physiopathological background.
Journal ArticleDOI

Objective measurement of gait parameters in healthy and cognitively impaired elderly using the dual-task paradigm.

TL;DR: Walking speed seems to be a gait-related feature that differs significantly between MCI and AD patients and thus could be used as an additional measurement in clinical assessment, however, differences in gait may not be salient enough in the early stages of dementia to be detected by actigraphy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Spatiotemporal Parameters of Gait During Treadmill and Overground Walking in Parkinson's Disease

TL;DR: Spatiotemporal differences between treadmill and overground walking in patients with Parkinson's disease are investigated and it is found that PD patients are able to attenuate their short shuffling steps when walking on a treadmill.

Movement Disorder Society-sponsored revision of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS): scale presentation and clinimetric testing results.

Christopher G. Goetz, +87 more
- 15 Nov 2008 -
TL;DR: The combined clinimetric results of this study support the validity of the MDS‐UPDRS for rating PD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Colonic inflammation in Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: Findings provide evidence that enteric inflammation occurs in Parkinson's disease and further reinforce the role of peripheral inflammation in the initiation and/or the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of pedunculopontine nucleus area stimulation on gait disorders in Parkinson's disease

TL;DR: Although freezing of gait can be improved by low-frequency electrical stimulation of the pedunculopontine nucleus area in some patients with Parkinson's disease, the overall results are disappointing compared to the high levels of expectation raised by previous open label studies.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Clinically Important Difference on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale

TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional analysis of the CIDs for UPDRS total and motor scores was performed on patients with Parkinson disease (PD) using distribution-and anchor-based approaches based on the following external standards: disability (10% on the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale), disease stage (1 stage on the Hoehn and Yahr Scale), and quality of life (1 SD on the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey).
