Clinical utility of DaTscan™ (123I-ioflupane injection) in the diagnosis of Parkinsonian syndromes
TL;DR: The clinical utility of DaTscan™ (123I-Ioflupane injection) and its diagnostic value in Parkinson's disease and the other Parkinsonian syndromes are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical and cognitive profiles of patients with both Parkinson's disease and essential tremor.
TL;DR: ET–PD patients differed from PD patients, showing more frequent familial tremor histories and lower levodopa responsiveness, and this patient population also demonstrated more severe cognitive impairments than pure-ET patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of a Novel fMRI Compatible Visual Perception Prototype Battery to Test Older People With and Without Dementia
TL;DR: Distinct visuoperceptual functions can be tested in patients with dementia and extrapyramidal motor features when tests use individualized thresholds, adapted tasks, and specialized response systems.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clock drawing test: is it useful for dementia screening in patients having Parkinson disease with and without depression?
TL;DR: It is indicated that CDT is a suitable screening instrument in patients with PD, but test results from patients with depression warrant careful consideration, according to the estimated classification performances and predictive values.
Journal ArticleDOI
Variables associated with physical health-related quality of life in Parkinson’s disease patients presenting for deep brain stimulation
Alexandre Paim Diaz,Alexandre Paim Diaz,Fernando Cini Freitas,Maria Emília Rodrigues de Oliveira Thais,Fernando Zanela da Silva Areas,Marcelo Liborio Schwarzbold,Rodrigo Debona,Jean Costa Nunes,Ricardo Guarnieri,Daniel Martinez-Ramirez,Rui Daniel Prediger,Aparna Wagle Shukla,Marcelo Neves Linhares,Roger Walz +13 more
TL;DR: Psychiatric symptoms were at least as relevant to quality of life as motor symptoms in PD patients presenting for DBS treatment, and the effect of treating these psychiatric symptoms on patients’ HRQOL deserves further investigation.

TL;DR: The combined clinimetric results of this study support the validity of the MDS‐UPDRS for rating PD.

TL;DR: Subthalamic stimulation was superior to medical therapy in patients with Parkinson's disease and early motor complications and time with good mobility and no dyskinesia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Colonic inflammation in Parkinson's disease.
David Devos,Thibaud Lebouvier,Bernard Lardeux,Bernard Lardeux,Mandy Biraud,Tiphaine Rouaud,Tiphaine Rouaud,Hélène Pouclet,Emmanuel Coron,Stanislas Bruley des Varannes,Philippe Naveilhan,Philippe Naveilhan,Jean-Michel Nguyen,Michel Neunlist,Michel Neunlist,Pascal Derkinderen +15 more
TL;DR: Findings provide evidence that enteric inflammation occurs in Parkinson's disease and further reinforce the role of peripheral inflammation in the initiation and/or the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of pedunculopontine nucleus area stimulation on gait disorders in Parkinson's disease
M.U. Ferraye,M.U. Ferraye,Bettina Debû,Bettina Debû,Valérie Fraix,Valérie Fraix,Laurent Goetz,Laurent Goetz,Claire Ardouin,Jérôme Yelnik,C. Henry-Lagrange,C. Le Bas,Alim-Louis Benabid,Alim-Louis Benabid,Stephan Chabardes,Stephan Chabardes,Pierre Pollak,Pierre Pollak +24 more
TL;DR: Although freezing of gait can be improved by low-frequency electrical stimulation of the pedunculopontine nucleus area in some patients with Parkinson's disease, the overall results are disappointing compared to the high levels of expectation raised by previous open label studies.

L. Shulman,Ann L. Gruber-Baldini,Karen E. Anderson,Paul S. Fishman,Stephen G. Reich,William J. Weiner +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional analysis of the CIDs for UPDRS total and motor scores was performed on patients with Parkinson disease (PD) using distribution-and anchor-based approaches based on the following external standards: disability (10% on the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale), disease stage (1 stage on the Hoehn and Yahr Scale), and quality of life (1 SD on the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey).
