Journal ArticleDOI

Correlations between abnormal iron metabolism and non-motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease

TL;DR: Serums levels of iron and transferrin could be peripheral markers for depression and anxiety in PD, and abnormal iron metabolism might play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of depression and Anxiety in PD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Neurostimulation in People with Oropharyngeal Dysphagia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomised Controlled Trials—Part II: Brain Neurostimulation

TL;DR: Both rTMS and tDCS show promising effects in people with oropharyngeal dysphagia, however, comparisons between studies were challenging due to high heterogeneity in stimulation protocols and experimental parameters, potential moderators, and inconsistent methodological reporting.
Journal ArticleDOI

Olfactory Function, Eating Ability, and Visceral Obesity Associated with MMSE Three Years after Parkinson's Disease Diagnosis.

TL;DR: It is indicated that olfactory function, cutting food, swallowing, and visceral obesity are associated with MMSE three years after PD diagnosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhanced temporal pain processing in multiple system atrophy

TL;DR: A facilitated temporal processing of pain is demonstrated in MSA subjects paralleling findings from PD, which could represent a consequence of the striatonigral neurodegeneration which in turn make these subjects more prone to develop pain conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lateral ventricle volume is poor predictor of post unilateral DBS motor change for Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: Ventricular volume was a poor predictor of acute motor change following DBS, and asymmetrical ventricles may not be a consistent imaging marker for PD motor dysfunction.

Movement Disorder Society-sponsored revision of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS): scale presentation and clinimetric testing results.

Christopher G. Goetz, +87 more
- 15 Nov 2008 -
TL;DR: The combined clinimetric results of this study support the validity of the MDS‐UPDRS for rating PD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Colonic inflammation in Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: Findings provide evidence that enteric inflammation occurs in Parkinson's disease and further reinforce the role of peripheral inflammation in the initiation and/or the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of pedunculopontine nucleus area stimulation on gait disorders in Parkinson's disease

TL;DR: Although freezing of gait can be improved by low-frequency electrical stimulation of the pedunculopontine nucleus area in some patients with Parkinson's disease, the overall results are disappointing compared to the high levels of expectation raised by previous open label studies.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Clinically Important Difference on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale

TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional analysis of the CIDs for UPDRS total and motor scores was performed on patients with Parkinson disease (PD) using distribution-and anchor-based approaches based on the following external standards: disability (10% on the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale), disease stage (1 stage on the Hoehn and Yahr Scale), and quality of life (1 SD on the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey).
