TL;DR: The combined clinimetric results of this study support the validity of the MDS‐UPDRS for rating PD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Second consensus statement on the diagnosis of multiple system atrophy
Sid Gilman,Gregor K. Wenning,Phillip A. Low,David J. Brooks,C. J. Mathias,John Q. Trojanowski,Nicholas W. Wood,Carlo Colosimo,Alexandra Durr,Clare J. Fowler,Horacio Kaufmann,Thomas Klockgether,AJ Lees,Werner Poewe,Niall Quinn,Tamas Revesz,David Robertson,Paola Sandroni,Klaus Seppi,Marie Vidailhet +19 more
TL;DR: New criteria for diagnosis of multiple system atrophy have simplified the previous criteria, have incorporated current knowledge, and are expected to enhance future assessments of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oertel,Bart Post,Hans Speelman,Yves Agid,Carmen Schade-Brittinger,Günther Deuschl +49 more
TL;DR: Subthalamic stimulation was superior to medical therapy in patients with Parkinson's disease and early motor complications and time with good mobility and no dyskinesia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Colonic inflammation in Parkinson's disease.
David Devos,Thibaud Lebouvier,Bernard Lardeux,Bernard Lardeux,Mandy Biraud,Tiphaine Rouaud,Tiphaine Rouaud,Hélène Pouclet,Emmanuel Coron,Stanislas Bruley des Varannes,Philippe Naveilhan,Philippe Naveilhan,Jean-Michel Nguyen,Michel Neunlist,Michel Neunlist,Pascal Derkinderen +15 more
TL;DR: Findings provide evidence that enteric inflammation occurs in Parkinson's disease and further reinforce the role of peripheral inflammation in the initiation and/or the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Clinically Important Difference on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale
L. Shulman,Ann L. Gruber-Baldini,Karen E. Anderson,Paul S. Fishman,Stephen G. Reich,William J. Weiner +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional analysis of the CIDs for UPDRS total and motor scores was performed on patients with Parkinson disease (PD) using distribution-and anchor-based approaches based on the following external standards: disability (10% on the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale), disease stage (1 stage on the Hoehn and Yahr Scale), and quality of life (1 SD on the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey).

Journal ArticleDOI
Dispositional optimism, depression, disability and quality of life in Parkinson's disease.
TL;DR: High dispositional optimism predicts a satisfactory quality of life, low emotional distress and reduced disease severity in Parkinson's disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Identification of Human Limb Viscoelasticity using Robotics Methods to Support the Diagnosis of Neuromuscular Diseases
TL;DR: The method is based on a non-invasive and painless technology making use of an optical motion capture system and an associated skeletal model to record the human motion and compute its kinematics and its dynamics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Depression and posture in patients with Parkinson's disease.
TL;DR: It is suggested that stooped posture, especially from the pelvis level, could be a marker of depression in patients with PD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Functional mapping in PD and PSP for sustained phonation and phoneme tasks
S. Sachin,S. Senthil Kumaran,Sundararajan Baskar Singh,Vinay Goyal,Garima Shukla,H. Mahajan,Madhuri Behari +6 more
TL;DR: The failure of the executive fronto-striatal network would lead to increased activation of other areas in PD, but in PSP, there is a widespread cortical dysfunction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Level of Presentation to Listeners on Scaled Speech Intelligibility of Speakers with Dysarthria
Yunjung Kim,Christina Kuo +1 more
TL;DR: The findings suggest that an increase in presentation level alone does not result in significant improvement in speech intelligibility ratings, and should be considered by considering clinical implications in conducting speech therapy with emphasis on intensity variation.
