Journal ArticleDOI

Life-threatening DBS withdrawal syndrome in Parkinson's disease can be treated with early reimplantation.

TL;DR: Early reimplantation of the DBS-hardware is a treatment option of theDBS-WDS when the life-threatening urgency overrides surgical standards and observation of the syndrome indicates pharmacological unresponsiveness of the dopaminergic system in advanced PD and long-term DBS.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantitative assessment of posture in healthy controls and patients with Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: The results confirmed gender differences and the progression of postural deviation in PD patients with age and empirically support the ≥30° TCC angle as a defining criterium for camptocormia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Postural instability and falls are more frequent in Parkinson's disease patients with worse trunk mobility.

TL;DR: Correlate the occurrence of falls and the activity of rolling over in bed with performance on the Trunk Mobility Scale (TMS) in patients with PD and determine whether this instrument score can predict the risk of falls.
Journal ArticleDOI

A within-subject comparison of 6-[18F]fluoro-m-tyrosine and 6-[18F]fluoro-L-dopa in Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: 6‐[ 18F]fluoro‐m‐tyrosine uptake better reflected clinical status than did 6‐[18F] fluoro‐L‐dopa uptake and implies that L‐aromatic amino acid decarboxylase activity is a major determinant of clinical status.
Journal ArticleDOI

Parkin dosage mutations in patients with early-onset sporadic and familial Parkinson's disease in Chinese: an independent pathogenic role.

TL;DR: It is suggested that dosage mutations alone can increase the risk for both sporadic and familial EOPD and affect their clinical aspects, but might contribute to a greater degree to familial EopD.

Movement Disorder Society-sponsored revision of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS): scale presentation and clinimetric testing results.

Christopher G. Goetz, +87 more
- 15 Nov 2008 -
TL;DR: The combined clinimetric results of this study support the validity of the MDS‐UPDRS for rating PD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Colonic inflammation in Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: Findings provide evidence that enteric inflammation occurs in Parkinson's disease and further reinforce the role of peripheral inflammation in the initiation and/or the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of pedunculopontine nucleus area stimulation on gait disorders in Parkinson's disease

TL;DR: Although freezing of gait can be improved by low-frequency electrical stimulation of the pedunculopontine nucleus area in some patients with Parkinson's disease, the overall results are disappointing compared to the high levels of expectation raised by previous open label studies.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Clinically Important Difference on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale

TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional analysis of the CIDs for UPDRS total and motor scores was performed on patients with Parkinson disease (PD) using distribution-and anchor-based approaches based on the following external standards: disability (10% on the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale), disease stage (1 stage on the Hoehn and Yahr Scale), and quality of life (1 SD on the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey).
