Journal ArticleDOI
EEG evidence of posterior cortical disconnection in PD and related dementias.
Luigi Pugnetti,Francesca Baglio,E. Farina,Margherita Alberoni,Elena Calabrese,Antonio Gambini,Enrico Di Bella,Massimo Garegnani,Laura Deleonardis,Raffaello Nemni +9 more
TL;DR: Electroencephalogram reactivity to eyes opening and 12-Hz photic stimulation was investigated and results are consistent with a graded posterior cortical disconnection in parkinsonian syndromes and with a model of dopamine-modulated thalamocortical interplay in visual processing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Psychometric properties of the Parkinson's Disease Sleep Scale--Brazilian version.
Regina Margis,Karina Carvalho Donis,Suzana Veiga Schönwald,S. Fagondes,Thais Lampert Monte,Pablo Martín-Martínez,K. Ray Chaudhuri,Flávio Kapczinski,Carlos Roberto de Mello Rieder +8 more
TL;DR: The psychometric attributes of the PDSS-BR were satisfactory and consistent with those of previous studies, and can be useful for clinical and research purposes in Brazil.
Journal ArticleDOI
Iowa Gambling Task in patients with early-onset Parkinson’s disease: strategy analysis
Tomáš Gescheidt,Kristína Czekóová,Kristína Czekóová,Tomáš Urbánek,Radek Mareček,Michal Mikl,Radka Kubíková,Sabina Telecká,Hana Andrlová,Ivica Husárová,Martin Bareš +10 more
TL;DR: Decision making in early-onset Parkinson’s disease patients performing the Iowa Gambling Task showed that the patients tended to change their preferences for the decks more frequently, with a higher preference for the ‘disadvantageous’ deck B.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural brain correlates of fatigue in older adults with and without Parkinson's disease.
Benzi M. Kluger,Qing Zhao,Jared J. Tanner,Nadine A. Schwab,Shellie-Anne Levy,Sarah E. Burke,Haiqing Huang,Mingzhou Ding,Catherine C. Price +8 more
TL;DR: Fatigue in Parkinson's disease is associated with unique structural changes in the caudate and putamen suggesting fatigue in PD is primarily related to PD pathology, particularly in the dorsal striatum, and not simply a consequence of aging.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Four Square Step Test in individuals with Parkinson's disease: Association with executive function and comparison with older adults
TL;DR: Using FSST in the clinic may help assess the health status of a motor-cognitive interaction in individuals with PD, and the obstacle-based FSST is feasible and reliable in those with PD.

Weiner,Jill Wiener,Jayne R. Wilkinson,Joanna M. Wojcieszek,Summer C. Wolfrath,Frederick Wooten,Allen Wu,Theresa A. Zesiewicz,Richard M. Zweig +87 more
TL;DR: The combined clinimetric results of this study support the validity of the MDS‐UPDRS for rating PD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oertel,Bart Post,Hans Speelman,Yves Agid,Carmen Schade-Brittinger,Günther Deuschl +49 more
TL;DR: Subthalamic stimulation was superior to medical therapy in patients with Parkinson's disease and early motor complications and time with good mobility and no dyskinesia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Colonic inflammation in Parkinson's disease.
David Devos,Thibaud Lebouvier,Bernard Lardeux,Bernard Lardeux,Mandy Biraud,Tiphaine Rouaud,Tiphaine Rouaud,Hélène Pouclet,Emmanuel Coron,Stanislas Bruley des Varannes,Philippe Naveilhan,Philippe Naveilhan,Jean-Michel Nguyen,Michel Neunlist,Michel Neunlist,Pascal Derkinderen +15 more
TL;DR: Findings provide evidence that enteric inflammation occurs in Parkinson's disease and further reinforce the role of peripheral inflammation in the initiation and/or the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of pedunculopontine nucleus area stimulation on gait disorders in Parkinson's disease
M.U. Ferraye,M.U. Ferraye,Bettina Debû,Bettina Debû,Valérie Fraix,Valérie Fraix,Laurent Goetz,Laurent Goetz,Claire Ardouin,Jérôme Yelnik,C. Henry-Lagrange,C. Le Bas,Alim-Louis Benabid,Alim-Louis Benabid,Stephan Chabardes,Stephan Chabardes,Pierre Pollak,Pierre Pollak +24 more
TL;DR: Although freezing of gait can be improved by low-frequency electrical stimulation of the pedunculopontine nucleus area in some patients with Parkinson's disease, the overall results are disappointing compared to the high levels of expectation raised by previous open label studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Clinically Important Difference on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale
L. Shulman,Ann L. Gruber-Baldini,Karen E. Anderson,Paul S. Fishman,Stephen G. Reich,William J. Weiner +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional analysis of the CIDs for UPDRS total and motor scores was performed on patients with Parkinson disease (PD) using distribution-and anchor-based approaches based on the following external standards: disability (10% on the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale), disease stage (1 stage on the Hoehn and Yahr Scale), and quality of life (1 SD on the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey).
