Journal ArticleDOI

Visual cortex in dementia with Lewy bodies: magnetic resonance imaging study

TL;DR: Higher visual areas, particularly occipito-parietal, appear abnormal in dementia with Lewy bodies, while there is a preservation of function in lower visual areas (V1 and V2/3).
Journal ArticleDOI

PPNa-DBS for gait and balance disorders in Parkinson’s disease: a double-blind, randomised study

TL;DR: It is suggested that PPNa-DBS could improve gait and balance disorders in well-selected PD patients, however, this treatment may be riskier than others DBS surgeries in these patients with an advanced form of PD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Trends in Dementia Incidence in a Birth Cohort Analysis of the Einstein Aging Study.

TL;DR: Dementia incidence among individuals aged 70 years or older who were enrolled in the Einstein Aging Study between 1993 and 2015 confirms decreasing dementia incidence, and whether decreasing incidence will contribute to reduced burden of dementia given the aging of the population is not known.
Journal ArticleDOI

Performance of the CogState computerized battery in the Mayo Clinic Study on Aging

TL;DR: The feasibility and validity of brief computerized cognitive batteries at the population level are unknown as discussed by the authors, and the feasibility and validation of such batteries at a population-level are unknown.

Movement Disorder Society-sponsored revision of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS): scale presentation and clinimetric testing results.

Christopher G. Goetz, +87 more
- 15 Nov 2008 -
TL;DR: The combined clinimetric results of this study support the validity of the MDS‐UPDRS for rating PD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Colonic inflammation in Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: Findings provide evidence that enteric inflammation occurs in Parkinson's disease and further reinforce the role of peripheral inflammation in the initiation and/or the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of pedunculopontine nucleus area stimulation on gait disorders in Parkinson's disease

TL;DR: Although freezing of gait can be improved by low-frequency electrical stimulation of the pedunculopontine nucleus area in some patients with Parkinson's disease, the overall results are disappointing compared to the high levels of expectation raised by previous open label studies.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Clinically Important Difference on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale

TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional analysis of the CIDs for UPDRS total and motor scores was performed on patients with Parkinson disease (PD) using distribution-and anchor-based approaches based on the following external standards: disability (10% on the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale), disease stage (1 stage on the Hoehn and Yahr Scale), and quality of life (1 SD on the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey).
