TL;DR: The combined clinimetric results of this study support the validity of the MDS‐UPDRS for rating PD.

Second consensus statement on the diagnosis of multiple system atrophy
Sid Gilman,Gregor K. Wenning,Phillip A. Low,David J. Brooks,C. J. Mathias,John Q. Trojanowski,Nicholas W. Wood,Carlo Colosimo,Alexandra Durr,Clare J. Fowler,Horacio Kaufmann,Thomas Klockgether,AJ Lees,Werner Poewe,Niall Quinn,Tamas Revesz,David Robertson,Paola Sandroni,Klaus Seppi,Marie Vidailhet +19 more
TL;DR: New criteria for diagnosis of multiple system atrophy have simplified the previous criteria, have incorporated current knowledge, and are expected to enhance future assessments of the disease.

Oertel,Bart Post,Hans Speelman,Yves Agid,Carmen Schade-Brittinger,Günther Deuschl +49 more
TL;DR: Subthalamic stimulation was superior to medical therapy in patients with Parkinson's disease and early motor complications and time with good mobility and no dyskinesia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Colonic inflammation in Parkinson's disease.
David Devos,Thibaud Lebouvier,Bernard Lardeux,Bernard Lardeux,Mandy Biraud,Tiphaine Rouaud,Tiphaine Rouaud,Hélène Pouclet,Emmanuel Coron,Stanislas Bruley des Varannes,Philippe Naveilhan,Philippe Naveilhan,Jean-Michel Nguyen,Michel Neunlist,Michel Neunlist,Pascal Derkinderen +15 more
TL;DR: Findings provide evidence that enteric inflammation occurs in Parkinson's disease and further reinforce the role of peripheral inflammation in the initiation and/or the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Clinically Important Difference on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale
L. Shulman,Ann L. Gruber-Baldini,Karen E. Anderson,Paul S. Fishman,Stephen G. Reich,William J. Weiner +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional analysis of the CIDs for UPDRS total and motor scores was performed on patients with Parkinson disease (PD) using distribution-and anchor-based approaches based on the following external standards: disability (10% on the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale), disease stage (1 stage on the Hoehn and Yahr Scale), and quality of life (1 SD on the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey).

Assessment of Motor Impairments in Early Untreated Parkinson's Disease Patients: The Wearable Electronics Impact
Mariachiara Ricci,Giulia Di Lazzaro,Antonio Pisani,Nicola Biagio Mercuri,Franco Giannini,Giovanni Saggio +5 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that subtle motor impairments, occurring in de novo patients, can be evidenced by means of wearable sensors, providing clinicians with instrumental tools as suitable supports for early diagnosis, and subsequent management.

The Pietà study: epidemiological investigation on successful brain aging in Caeté (MG), Brazil. Methods and baseline cohort characteristics.
Paulo Caramelli,Maira Tonidandel Barbosa,Emília Sakurai,E Santos,Rogério Gomes Beato,João Carlos Barbosa Machado,Henrique Cerqueira Guimarães,Antônio Lúcio Teixeira +7 more
TL;DR: The Pietà cohort is representative of the oldest-old Brazilian population and may contribute to increase the knowledge about healthy and pathological brain aging in the youngest-old.
Journal ArticleDOI
The frontal assessment battery as a tool for evaluation of frontal lobe dysfunction in patients with Parkinson disease.
Oren S. Cohen,Eli Vakil,David Tanne,David Tanne,Noa Molshatzki,Zeev Nitsan,Sharon Hassin-Baer,Sharon Hassin-Baer +7 more
TL;DR: In a sample of patients with PD, the FAB correlated with dysfunction in a variety of cognitive domains including attention, memory, and executive functions, an advantage that can be used in clinical practice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural brain abnormalities in patients with Parkinson’s disease with visual hallucinations: A comparative voxel-based analysis
Rômulo Lopes Gama,Veralice M.S. Bruin,Daniel Gurgel Fernandes Távora,Fábio L.S. Duran,Lia Bittencourt,Sergio Tufik +5 more
TL;DR: Results reinforce the theoretical concept of a top-down visual processing in the genesis of VHs in PD, where an abnormal frontal cortex, particularly left sided insula, frontal opercular, trigonal frontal gyrus and orbital frontal would make PD patients vulnerable to hallucinations.
Journal ArticleDOI
