Movement Disorder Society-sponsored revision of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS): scale presentation and clinimetric testing results.

Christopher G. Goetz, +87 more
- 15 Nov 2008 -
TL;DR: The combined clinimetric results of this study support the validity of the MDS‐UPDRS for rating PD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Colonic inflammation in Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: Findings provide evidence that enteric inflammation occurs in Parkinson's disease and further reinforce the role of peripheral inflammation in the initiation and/or the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Clinically Important Difference on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale

TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional analysis of the CIDs for UPDRS total and motor scores was performed on patients with Parkinson disease (PD) using distribution-and anchor-based approaches based on the following external standards: disability (10% on the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale), disease stage (1 stage on the Hoehn and Yahr Scale), and quality of life (1 SD on the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey).

High-frequency rTMS over the supplementary motor area improves bradykinesia in Parkinson's disease: subanalysis of double-blind sham-controlled study

TL;DR: Results support the hypothesis that neuronal activity of SMA was profoundly associated with hypokinetic symptoms in PD and provide relief of motor symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

White matter hyperintensities do not impact cognitive function in patients with newly diagnosed Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: Investigating total volume and spatial distribution of white matter hyperintensities (WMH) in a large sample of newly diagnosed Parkinson's disease patients with and without mild cognitive impairment (MCI) compared to normal controls showed that cognitive impairment seems to be independent of WMH damage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prevalence of non-motor symptoms in young-onset versus late-onset Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: A higher prevalence of NMS is found in LOPD patients than in those with YOPD, and in the multivariate linear regression model, the Hoehn and Yahr (HY) stage of the disease and activities of daily living scores in YOPd patients, while only the HY stage in LopD patients appeared to be statistically significant predictors of increasing number of N MS.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lewy bodies and olfactory dysfunction in old age.

TL;DR: The findings indicate that Lewy body disease impairs late life olfactory function even in otherwise asymptomatic individuals and suggested that impairedOlfactory performance may aid detection of underlying LewyBody disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prevalence of depression in Parkinson's disease: Effects of disease stage, motor subtype and gender ☆

TL;DR: The data did not show a difference in the prevalence of depression between the motor subtypes and showed a trend towards higher prevalence of depressed patients in the tremor dominant group, and there was no significant difference between men and women.
