Movement Disorder Society-sponsored revision of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS): scale presentation and clinimetric testing results.

Christopher G. Goetz, +87 more
- 15 Nov 2008 -
TL;DR: The combined clinimetric results of this study support the validity of the MDS‐UPDRS for rating PD.
Journal ArticleDOI

Colonic inflammation in Parkinson's disease.

TL;DR: Findings provide evidence that enteric inflammation occurs in Parkinson's disease and further reinforce the role of peripheral inflammation in the initiation and/or the progression of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Clinically Important Difference on the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale

TL;DR: In this paper, a cross-sectional analysis of the CIDs for UPDRS total and motor scores was performed on patients with Parkinson disease (PD) using distribution-and anchor-based approaches based on the following external standards: disability (10% on the Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale), disease stage (1 stage on the Hoehn and Yahr Scale), and quality of life (1 SD on the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey).

Journal ArticleDOI

Electromyographic activity of sternocleidomastoid muscle in patients with Parkinson’s disease

TL;DR: These patients, without levo-dopa effect, when compared with asymptomatic subjects, present a significantly higher electromyographic activity of SCM, the main accessory respiratory muscle, which could be related to an increased work of breathing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Parkinsonism in essential tremor cases: A clinicopathological study.

TL;DR: The spectrum of Parkinson's syndrome variants associated with essential tremor, their clinical features, and course have not been determined in autopsy‐confirmed cases.
Journal ArticleDOI

An evidence-based algorithm for the utility of FDG-PET for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease according to presence of medial temporal lobe atrophy.

TL;DR: In the presence of a high degree of MTLA, the most likely diagnosis is Alzheimer's disease, and an FDG-PET scan will probably not provide significant diagnostic information, however, in cases withoutMTLA, if the diagnosis is unclear, anFDG- PET scan may provide additional clinically useful diagnostic information.
Journal ArticleDOI

Freezing of gait is associated with cortical thinning in mesial frontal cortex.

TL;DR: The findings provide additional evidence that the development of FOG in patients with PD is associated with local structural cortical changes, especially in mesial frontal and cingulate cortices.
Journal ArticleDOI

Levels of HVA, 5-HIAA, and MHPG in the CSF of vascular parkinsonism compared to Parkinson's disease and controls.

TL;DR: It is found that levels of HVA were reduced in PD compared with both VP and controls but did not differ significantly betweenVP and controls indicating that dopamine deficiency was less pronounced in VP.
