Journal ArticleDOI
Pilot study to determine the impact of a multidisciplinary educational intervention in patients hospitalized with heart failure.
Femida Gwadry-Sridhar,Femida Gwadry-Sridhar,J. Malcolm O. Arnold,Ying Zhang,James E. Brown,Gordon Marchiori,Gordon H. Guyatt +6 more
TL;DR: An inhospital educational intervention improved knowledge and, possibly, quality of life and may be useful as part of a comprehensive compliance enhancing strategy in patients with HF.
Journal ArticleDOI
The prognostic significance of CDKN2A, CDKN2B and MTAP inactivation in B-lineage acute lymphoblastic leukemia of childhood. Results of the EORTC studies 58881 and 58951.
Delphine Mirebeau,Cécile Acquaviva,Stefan Suciu,Raphaëlle Bertin,Nicole Dastugue,Alain Robert,Patrick Boutard,Francoise Mechinaud,Emmanuel Plouvier,Jacques Otten,Etienne Vilmer,Hélène Cavé,Eortc-Clg +12 more
TL;DR: Although CDKN2A inactivation was more often associated with poor prognostic features in B-lineage ALL, it failed to influence the outcome of the patients significantly, and did not influence the 6-year event-free survival rate either.
Prognostic Impact of Metabolic Syndrome by Different Definitions in a Population with High Prevalence of Obesity and Diabetes: The Strong Heart Study. Received for publication 18 October 2006 and accepted in revised form 30 March 2007. Running title: Metabolic syndrome.
Giovanni de Simone,Richard B. Devereux,Marcello Chinali,Lyle G. Best,Elisa T. Lee,James M. Galloway,Helaine E. Resnick +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed which definition of metabolic syndrome (MetS) is more predictive of cardiovascular events in both diabetic and non-diabetic members of a population based sample.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of implantable loop recorders in the diagnosis and management of syncope
TL;DR: LR significantly increased the rate of diagnosis in an unselected Western population with recurrent syncope and there was a significant decrease in the rates of hospitalisation and investigation in patients receiving an ILR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Patch leaving decision rules and the Marginal Value Theorem: an experimental analysis and a simulation model.
TL;DR: The patch exploitation strategy of females of the insect parasitoid Trichogramma brassicae was studied on patches containing different proportions of hosts that were previously attacked by conspecific females, and a set of patch leaving rules seems to provide them with a sufficient way to reach the predictions of the Charnov model.

Mineral Metabolism, Mortality, and Morbidity in Maintenance Hemodialysis
Geoffrey A. Block,Preston S. Klassen,J. Michael Lazarus,Norma J. Ofsthun,Edmund G. Lowrie,Glenn M. Chertow +5 more
TL;DR: Hyperphosphatemia and hyperparathyroidism were significantly associated with all-cause, cardiovascular, and fracture-related hospitalization, and the population attributable risk percentage for disorders of mineral metabolism was 17.5%, owing largely to the high prevalence of hyperph phosphatemia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Overall Survival and Updated Results for Sunitinib Compared With Interferon Alfa in Patients With Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma
Robert J. Motzer,Thomas E. Hutson,Piotr Tomczak,M. Dror Michaelson,Ronald M. Bukowski,Stéphane Oudard,Sylvie Negrier,Cezary Szczylik,Roberto Pili,Georg A. Bjarnason,Xavier Garcia-del-Muro,Jeffrey A. Sosman,Ewa Solska,George Wilding,John A. Thompson,Sindy T. Kim,Isan Chen,Xin Huang,Robert A. Figlin +18 more
TL;DR: Sunitinib demonstrates longer overall survival compared with IFN-alpha plus improvement in response and progression-free survival in the first-line treatment of patients with metastatic RCC, highlighting an improved prognosis in patients with RCC in the era of targeted therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy or Primary Surgery in Stage IIIC or IV Ovarian Cancer
Ignace Vergote,Claes G. Tropé,Frédéric Amant,G.B. Kristensen,Tom Ehlen,N Johnson,René H.M. Verheijen,Maria E. L. van der Burg,A. J. Lacave,Pierluigi Benedetti Panici,Gemma G. Kenter,Antonio Casado,Cesar Mendiola,Corneel Coens,Leen Verleye,Gavin Stuart,Sergio Pecorelli,Nicholas Reed +17 more
TL;DR: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by interval debulking surgery was not inferior to primary debulked surgery followed by chemotherapy as a treatment option for patients with bulky stage IIIC or IV ovarian carcinoma in this study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Survival and Prognostic Stratification of 670 Patients With Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma
TL;DR: Five prognostic factors for predicting survival were identified and used to categorize patients with metastatic RCC into three risk groups, for which the median survival times were separated by 6 months or more.
