The cynomolgus monkey as a model for developmental toxicity studies: variability of pregnancy losses, statistical power estimates, and group size considerations.
Philip Jarvis,Shiela Srivastav,Elvira Vogelwedde,Jane Stewart,Terri Mitchard,Gerhard F. Weinbauer +5 more
TL;DR: Pregnancy and infant loss in 1,069 vehicle-treated cynomolgus monkeys from 78 embryo-fetal development studies and 14 pre-postnatal development studies accrued during 1981-2007 provides an objective tool to facilitate decisions either by supplementing groups with additional pregnant animals or stopping a group because an adverse effect on offspring survival has already been adequately revealed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Persistence of lymphoblasts in bone marrow on day 15 and days 22 to 25 of remission induction predicts a dismal treatment outcome in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
John T. Sandlund,Patricia L. Harrison,Gaston K. Rivera,Frederick G. Behm,David R. Head,James M. Boyett,Jeffrey E. Rubnitz,Amar J. Gajjar,Susana C. Raimondi,Raul C. Ribeiro,Melissa M. Hudson,M. V. Relling,William E. Evans,Ching-Hon Pui +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors determined the prognostic importance of morphologically identifiable persistent disease at day 15 and days 22 to 25 of remission induction in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-term survival in patients with advanced immunodeficiency
TL;DR: Routinely available clinical and laboratory data including haemoglobin level, rate of CD4 decline and duration of AIDS can be readily translated into a prognostic score and then used to predict the survival experience of an HIV-infected patient with advanced immunodeficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI
Favourable effects of fenofibrate on lipids and cardiovascular disease in women with type 2 diabetes: results from the Fenofibrate Intervention and Event Lowering in Diabetes (FIELD) study.
Michael C d'Emden,Alicia J. Jenkins,Alicia J. Jenkins,Liping Li,Diana Zannino,Kristy Mann,James D. Best,Bronwyn G. A. Stuckey,Kris Park,Juha Saltevo,Anthony C Keech +10 more
TL;DR: Fenofibrate improved the lipoprotein profile more in women than men, independent of menopausal status and statin uptake and among those with low HDL-cholesterol and high triacylglycerol levels.

Mineral Metabolism, Mortality, and Morbidity in Maintenance Hemodialysis
Geoffrey A. Block,Preston S. Klassen,J. Michael Lazarus,Norma J. Ofsthun,Edmund G. Lowrie,Glenn M. Chertow +5 more
TL;DR: Hyperphosphatemia and hyperparathyroidism were significantly associated with all-cause, cardiovascular, and fracture-related hospitalization, and the population attributable risk percentage for disorders of mineral metabolism was 17.5%, owing largely to the high prevalence of hyperph phosphatemia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Overall Survival and Updated Results for Sunitinib Compared With Interferon Alfa in Patients With Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma
Robert J. Motzer,Thomas E. Hutson,Piotr Tomczak,M. Dror Michaelson,Ronald M. Bukowski,Stéphane Oudard,Sylvie Negrier,Cezary Szczylik,Roberto Pili,Georg A. Bjarnason,Xavier Garcia-del-Muro,Jeffrey A. Sosman,Ewa Solska,George Wilding,John A. Thompson,Sindy T. Kim,Isan Chen,Xin Huang,Robert A. Figlin +18 more
TL;DR: Sunitinib demonstrates longer overall survival compared with IFN-alpha plus improvement in response and progression-free survival in the first-line treatment of patients with metastatic RCC, highlighting an improved prognosis in patients with RCC in the era of targeted therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy or Primary Surgery in Stage IIIC or IV Ovarian Cancer
Ignace Vergote,Claes G. Tropé,Frédéric Amant,G.B. Kristensen,Tom Ehlen,N Johnson,René H.M. Verheijen,Maria E. L. van der Burg,A. J. Lacave,Pierluigi Benedetti Panici,Gemma G. Kenter,Antonio Casado,Cesar Mendiola,Corneel Coens,Leen Verleye,Gavin Stuart,Sergio Pecorelli,Nicholas Reed +17 more
TL;DR: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by interval debulking surgery was not inferior to primary debulked surgery followed by chemotherapy as a treatment option for patients with bulky stage IIIC or IV ovarian carcinoma in this study.
Journal ArticleDOI
Survival and Prognostic Stratification of 670 Patients With Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma
TL;DR: Five prognostic factors for predicting survival were identified and used to categorize patients with metastatic RCC into three risk groups, for which the median survival times were separated by 6 months or more.
