Chromatin dynamics during spermiogenesis.
TLDR
This review highlights the current knowledge on post-meiotic chromatin reorganization and reveals for the first time intriguing parallels in this process in Drosophila and mammals and illustrates the possible mechanisms that lead from a histone-based chromatin to a mainly protamine-based structure during spermatid differentiation.About:

The missing linker between SUN5 and PMFBP1 in sperm head-tail coupling apparatus.
TL;DR: In this article, the sperm head-to-tail coupling apparatus (HTCA) ensures sperm headtail integrity while defective HTCA causes acephalic spermatozoa, rendering males infertile.

The Art of Packaging the Sperm Genome: Molecular and Structural Basis of the Histone-To-Protamine Exchange
Lindsay Moritz,Saher Sue Hammoud +1 more
TL;DR: Past and more recent work is brought together to explore the molecular basis of the histone-to-protamine exchange and the underlying etiology of idiopathic male infertility and suggest future studies that will elevate the understanding.

Genome evolution is driven by gene expression-generated biophysical constraints through RNA-directed genetic variation: A hypothesis.
TL;DR: It is shown that co‐transcriptional and co-translational biophysical constraints can trigger DNA instability that in turn increases the likelihood that sequences that alleviate the constraints emerge over evolutionary time, implying that gene expression‐related biophysical constraint represent a driving force of genome evolution.

The language of covalent histone modifications.

TL;DR: It is proposed that distinct histone modifications, on one or more tails, act sequentially or in combination to form a ‘histone code’ that is, read by other proteins to bring about distinct downstream events.

Identification of 67 Histone Marks and Histone Lysine Crotonylation as a New Type of Histone Modification
Minjia Tan,Hao Luo,Sangkyu Lee,Fulai Jin,Jeong Soo Yang,Emilie Montellier,Thierry Buchou,Zhongyi Cheng,Sophie Rousseaux,Nisha Rajagopal,Zhike Lu,Zhen Ye,Qin Zhu,Joanna Wysocka,Yang Ye,Saadi Khochbin,Bing Ren,Yingming Zhao +17 more
TL;DR: The identification of 67 previously undescribed histone modifications is reported, increasing the current number of known histone marks by about 70%, and lysine crotonylation (Kcr) is investigated, confirming that it represents an evolutionarily-conserved histone posttranslational modification.
