Chromatin dynamics during spermiogenesis.

TLDR
This review highlights the current knowledge on post-meiotic chromatin reorganization and reveals for the first time intriguing parallels in this process in Drosophila and mammals and illustrates the possible mechanisms that lead from a histone-based chromatin to a mainly protamine-based structure during spermatid differentiation.

Direct visualization of pre-protamine 2 detects protamine assembly failures and predicts ICSI success.

TL;DR: The results suggest that the extent of pre- PRM2 retention in sperm, rather than pre-PRM2 accumulation per se, is associated with fertilization failure, and anti-pre-PRm2/pre-Prm2 antibodies are valuable tools which could be used in routine monitoring of sperm parameters in fertility clinics, as well as in experimental research programmes to better understand the obscure process of histone-to-protamine transition.

Histone-mediated transgenerational epigenetics

TL;DR: This chapter provides a perspective on histone-driven epigenetic mechanisms, such as histone posttranslational modifications, incorporation of histone variants, and nucleosome positioning, illustrating their interwoven hierarchies of activity and highlighting their roles in the transgenerational inheritance of genomic functions.

Journal ArticleDOI

Epigenetic Modifications, A New Approach to Male Infertility Etiology: A Review.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors focus on the latest advances in epigenome profiling of the chromatin modifications during sperm development, as well as the potential roles of epigenetic mechanisms in the context of male infertility.
Journal ArticleDOI

The molecular mechanism behind insulin protective effects on testicular tissue of hyperglycemic rats

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assessed the possible mechanisms by which the insulin regulates the heat shock (HSPs) and transitional proteins expression and consequently ameliorated the oxidative stress-induced damages in germ and sperm cells DNA contents.

The language of covalent histone modifications.

TL;DR: It is proposed that distinct histone modifications, on one or more tails, act sequentially or in combination to form a ‘histone code’ that is, read by other proteins to bring about distinct downstream events.
Journal ArticleDOI

Proteasome inhibitors: valuable new tools for cell biologists.

TL;DR: The actions of selective proteasome inhibitors are described, how they can be used to investigate cellular responses, the functions of the proteasomes demonstrated by such studies and their potential applications in the future.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of 67 Histone Marks and Histone Lysine Crotonylation as a New Type of Histone Modification

TL;DR: The identification of 67 previously undescribed histone modifications is reported, increasing the current number of known histone marks by about 70%, and lysine crotonylation (Kcr) is investigated, confirming that it represents an evolutionarily-conserved histone posttranslational modification.
