Chromatin dynamics during spermiogenesis.
TLDR
This review highlights the current knowledge on post-meiotic chromatin reorganization and reveals for the first time intriguing parallels in this process in Drosophila and mammals and illustrates the possible mechanisms that lead from a histone-based chromatin to a mainly protamine-based structure during spermatid differentiation.About:

Abnormal histone replacement following BPA exposure affects spermatogenesis and fertility sequentially.
Do-Yeal Ryu,Won-Ki Pang,Elikanah Olusayo Adegoke,Md. Saidur Rahman,Yoo-Jin Park,Myung-Geol Pang +5 more
TL;DR: In this article , the effects of BPA exposure on epigenetic regulation and the histone-to-protamine (PRM) transition were investigated in testes and spermatozoa.
Book ChapterDOI
Histone variants and posttranslational modifications in spermatogenesis and infertility
TL;DR: This chapter focuses primarily on the disturbance of spermatogenesis resulting from alterations of somatic and variant histones that, in the late stages, are replaced by transition proteins and subsequently by protamines.

Endogenous RNAi silences a burgeoning sex chromosome arms race
Jeffrey P. Vedanayagam,Ching-Jung Lin,Ranjith K Papareddy,Michael D. Nodine,Alex S. Flynt,Jiayu Wen,Eric C. Lai +6 more
TL;DR: Comparisons of D. simulans and D. melanogaster mutants of the core RNAi factor dcr-2 reveal a substantially expanded network of recently-emerged hpRNA-target interactions in the former species, and suggest that endo-RNAi are especially critical during incipient stages of intrinsic sex chromosome conflicts, and that continual cycles of distortion and resolution may contribute to the segregation of species.

Loss of the cleaved-protamine 2 domain leads to incomplete histone-to-protamine exchange and infertility in mice
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of the cleaved PRM2 (cP2) domain in sperm chromatin packaging was investigated and it was shown that deletion of one allele of the cP2 domain is sufficient to render male mice infertile.

Histone H4 acetylation is dysregulated in active seminiferous tubules adjacent to testicular tumours.
Ferran Barrachina,Alberto de la Iglesia,Meritxell Jodar,Ada Soler-Ventura,Carme Mallofré,Leonardo Rodriguez-Carunchio,Afsaneh Goudarzi,Juan M. Corral,José Luis Ballescà,Judit Castillo,Rafael Oliva +10 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that, despite presenting spermatogenic activity, the global epigenetic dysregulation found in the testicular tumour patients could lead to molecular alterations of the male germ cells.

The language of covalent histone modifications.
Brian D. Strahl,C D Allis +1 more
TL;DR: It is proposed that distinct histone modifications, on one or more tails, act sequentially or in combination to form a ‘histone code’ that is, read by other proteins to bring about distinct downstream events.

Proteasome inhibitors: valuable new tools for cell biologists.
Do Hee Lee,Alfred L. Goldberg +1 more
TL;DR: The actions of selective proteasome inhibitors are described, how they can be used to investigate cellular responses, the functions of the proteasomes demonstrated by such studies and their potential applications in the future.

Identification of 67 Histone Marks and Histone Lysine Crotonylation as a New Type of Histone Modification
Minjia Tan,Hao Luo,Sangkyu Lee,Fulai Jin,Jeong Soo Yang,Emilie Montellier,Thierry Buchou,Zhongyi Cheng,Sophie Rousseaux,Nisha Rajagopal,Zhike Lu,Zhen Ye,Qin Zhu,Joanna Wysocka,Yang Ye,Saadi Khochbin,Bing Ren,Yingming Zhao +17 more
TL;DR: The identification of 67 previously undescribed histone modifications is reported, increasing the current number of known histone marks by about 70%, and lysine crotonylation (Kcr) is investigated, confirming that it represents an evolutionarily-conserved histone posttranslational modification.
