FMRP stalls ribosomal translocation on mRNAs linked to synaptic function and autism

TLDR
A brain polyribosome-programmed translation system is developed, revealing that FMRP reversibly stalls ribosomes specifically on its target mRNAs and suggests multiple targets for clinical intervention in FXS and ASD.

Cataloguing and Selection of mRNAs Localized to Dendrites in Neurons and Regulated by RNA-Binding Proteins in RNA Granules

TL;DR: These findings provide insights into the mechanistic basis of protein-synthesis-dependent synaptic plasticity and memory formation and contribute to future efforts to understand the physiological implications of local regulation of dendritic mRNAs in neurons.

UPF1 Governs Synaptic Plasticity through Association with a STAU2 RNA Granule.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that UPF1, known to stall peptide release during nonsense-mediated RNA decay, is critical for assembly of stalled polysomes in rat hippocampal neurons derived from embryos of either sex, and a new role is described for the ATP-dependent helicase UpF1 and its interaction with the RNA localization protein STAU2 in mediating mGluR-LTD through the regulation of mRNA translation complexes stalled at the level of elongation and/or termination.

Controlling the false discovery rate: a practical and powerful approach to multiple testing

TL;DR: In this paper, a different approach to problems of multiple significance testing is presented, which calls for controlling the expected proportion of falsely rejected hypotheses -the false discovery rate, which is equivalent to the FWER when all hypotheses are true but is smaller otherwise.

Linear Models and Empirical Bayes Methods for Assessing Differential Expression in Microarray Experiments

TL;DR: The hierarchical model of Lonnstedt and Speed (2002) is developed into a practical approach for general microarray experiments with arbitrary numbers of treatments and RNA samples and the moderated t-statistic is shown to follow a t-distribution with augmented degrees of freedom.
