Abstract: A client device is connectable to a server via a communication network for receiving new software packages. The client device includes a pair of system partitions designated as current and backup system partitions and at least one package partition on which all installed system packages are saved. A central processing unit of the client device uses the contents of the current system partition. In response to an startup failure or a runtime failure, the client device reboots using the backup system partition and allows a user to selectively install any of the software packages saved on the at least one package partition.

Abstract: In a radio data transmission system which transmits data in cell form, the risk of cell loss or the risk of out-of-ordering during handover can be diminished by synchronizing the cell transmission between the new (50) and the old (40) base stations. The old base station (40) delivers to the new base station (50) and/or the switch (51), information on the last cell that was transmitted successfully and in the right order through the old base station, whereby the new base station continues the transmission by starting from the first failed cell. Cells need not be identified one by one if group numbering is applied in which the first or the last cell of a given group (31, 32, 33, 34) or a given counter cell is numbered, and the rest can be indicated, where necessary, by counting the distance from the numbered cell.

Abstract: A radio antenna including a first shorted patch having a first resonance frequency (GSM1800), a second shorted patch connected to the first shorted patch for sharing a first feed point, and a third shorted patch separately having a second feed point. A first switch and a second switch connect between the ground and, respectively, the first and the second feed points. To cause the second and third shorted patches to produce, respectively, a second (E-GSM900) and a third resonance frequency (PCS1900), the first switch is operated in the open position while the second switch is operated in the closed position. To cause the first and third shorted patches to produce, respectively, a third frequency and a fourth resonance frequency (UMTS), the first switch is operated in the closed position while the second switch is operated in the open position.

Abstract: A capacitive single-chip silicon microphone with very low-stress polysilicon membrane was fabricated. A mechanism for stress-releasing due to the high stress of the perforated membrane was introduced. With the achieved stress level of 2 MPa, a microphone with the membrane area of 1 mm 2 can be optimally designed, although the measured components did not show the optimal resolution due to excessive acoustic resistance. With a membrane area of 1 mm 2 , the acoustical sensitivity was 4 mV/Pa (at 1 kHz) and the noise equivalent sound level was 33.5 dB (A), which are adequate values for many applications. The packaged components were tested with a thermal cycle between −40°C and +60°C, and due to low packaging-related stresses, no buckling of the membranes was observed.

Abstract: An improved method for generating comfort noise (CN) in a mobile terminal operating in a discontinuous transmission (DTX) mode. In one embodiment the invention provides an improved method for comfort noise generation, in which a random excitation is modified by a spectral control filter so that the frequency content of comfort noise and background noise become similar. In another embodiment the transmitter identifies speech coding parameters that are not representative of the actual background noise, and replaces the identified parameters with parameters having a median value. In this manner the non-representative parameters do not skew the result of an averaging operation.
