15 Sep 1997TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method for operating a cellular communications system of a type that includes a first type of terminal having real-time transmission needs and a second type of terminals having non-real-time transmissions.
Abstract: A method for operating a cellular communications system of a type that includes a first type of terminal having real-time transmission needs and a second type of terminal having nonreal-time transmission needs. The method includes the steps of (a) determining at periodic intervals a total amount of capacity required to service the first type of terminals; (b) subtracting the determined amount from a current maximum capacity; and (c) allocating all or some of the remaining capacity, if any, to one or more of the second type of terminals.

11 Dec 2009TL;DR: In this article, a method, an apparatus and a computer program product for allocating resources for a D2D (D2D) direct communication user equipment in a wireless communication network, wherein the method comprise: transmitting a communication channel status report regarding Device-to-Device direct communication to a base station; receiving resource allocation instructions generated by the base station based on the communication channels status report; and performing device-todevice direct communication between user equipments on the allocated resources.
Abstract: The present application discloses a method, an apparatus and a computer program product for allocating resources for a Device-to-Device (D2D) direct communication user equipment in a wireless communication network, wherein the method comprise: transmitting a communication channel status report regarding Device-to-Device direct communication to a base station; receiving resource allocation instructions generated by the base station based on the communication channel status report; and performing Device-to-Device direct communication between user equipments on the allocated resources; the disclosed apparatus comprises transmitting means for transmitting a communication channel status report regarding Device-to-Device direct communication to a base station; receiving means for receiving resource allocation instructions generated by the base station based on the communication channel status report; and performing means for performing Device-to-Device direct communication between user equipments on the allocated resources. By using the method, apparatus and computer program product disclosed in the present application, resource sharing/allocation collision between the D2D user equipment and cellular user equipment can be effectively reduced and use rate of resources can be improved.

16 Oct 1997TL;DR: In this paper, the physical radio resources are divided into chronologically consecutive frames (14), so that a frame contains slots (16, 17, 18) of various sizes, which slots represent a given share of the physical resources contained in the frame and can be individually allocated to different radio connections.
Abstract: In order to control the use of physical radio resources, the physical radio resources are divided into chronologically consecutive frames (14), so that a frame contains slots (16, 17, 18) of various sizes, which slots represent a given share of the physical radio resources contained in the frame and can be individually allocated to different radio connections. The first dimension of a frame is time and the second dimension can be time, frequency or code. In the direction of the second dimension the slots represent various sizes, and a given first integral number of slots of the first size can be modularly replaced by another integral number of slots of another size. A certain number of consecutive frames form a superframe (19), in which case frames with corresponding locations in consecutive superframes are equal in slot division and allocations, if the data transmission demands do not change. Changes in the state of occupancy of the slots are possible at each superframe. In order to form an uplink connection, the mobile station sends a capacity request, where it indicates the type of requested connection and the demand of resources. In order to form a downlink connection, the base station subsystem sends a paging call, where it indicates the location in the superframe of the slots allocated to the connection. In order to indicate the state of occupancy, the base station subsystem maintains a superframe-size parametrized reservation table.

28 Jan 2005TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a protection device and associated method for protecting (including the protection from water and dust) a mobile terminal whether or not the terminal is in use, and for providing a hands-free operation of the mobile terminal.
Abstract: This invention describes a protective device and associated method for protecting (including the protection from water and dust) a mobile terminal whether or not the terminal is in use, and for providing a hands-free operation of the mobile terminal, wherein the mobile terminal can be a mobile phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a pager, a MP3 player, or any similar portable communication device or a mobile electronic device.

08 Dec 2000TL;DR: In this article, a message exchange session between wireless communication terminals via a wireless network is initiated from one of the terminals by forwarding a message text to said at least one other communication terminal.
Abstract: A message exchange session between wireless communication terminals via a wireless network is initiated from one of the terminals. The user of the initiating terminal invites at least one other communication terminal to participate in the message exchange session. This is done by forwarding a message text to said at least one other communication terminal. The user of the other terminal responds to received message by inputting a message text for replying to the received message. Then the responding terminal automatically adds the inputted reply message text to the received message text, whereby the aggregate message text includes the message exchange session history, and the aggregate message text is then transmitted to the other communication terminals being party to the message exchange session.
