04 Feb 1994TL;DR: A mobile telephone has a plurality of user adjustable operating characteristics, such as the volume of an output signal, the ringing volume, and the generation of tones as mentioned in this paper, such that when moving from one environment to another, a user is only required to make a single menu selection.
Abstract: A mobile telephone has a plurality of user adjustable operating characteristics, such as the volume of an output signal, the ringing volume, and the generation of tones. When moving from one environment to another, such as from an indoor environment to an in-car environment or an out-door environment, it is preferable to modify a plurality of these operating characteristics. In order to facilitate the modification of the plurality of user adjustable characteristics each group includes predetermined values for all these characteristics and the selection of a particular group results in a plurality of characteristics being modified simultaneously. Thus, when moving from one environment to another, a user is only required to make a single menu selection, resulting in a plurality of operating characteristics being modified simultaneously. For example, when moving into an in-car environment, the output volume can be increased, ringing tone volume can be increased and a call transfer function, if previously selected, can be disabled.

28 Dec 2007TL;DR: In this paper, an apparatus consisting of a housing section, electronic circuitry, a touch screen, and a user sensory feedback system is presented, which is configured to sense a touch at an area of the touch screen.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus. The apparatus includes a housing section, electronic circuitry, a touch screen, and a user sensory feedback system. The electronic circuitry is mounted within the housing section. The touch screen is on the housing section. The touch screen is configured to sense a touch at an area of the touch screen. The electronic circuitry is configured to analyze a feature displayed at the area of the touch screen. The user sensory feedback system is proximate the housing section. The user sensory feedback system is configured to perform an operation based, at least partially, upon the touch at the area of the touch screen and upon an image analysis of the feature at the area of the touch screen.

28 Sep 2004TL;DR: In this paper, a method and apparatus for providing an active ticket in a mobile terminal for use by a mobile user, wherein at least one active ticket has a ticket characteristic that dynamically changes based on one or more states in a life cycle of the active ticket.
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for providing an active ticket in a mobile terminal for use by a mobile terminal user, wherein at least one active ticket has a ticket characteristic that dynamically changes based on one or more states in a life cycle of the active ticket. Dynamic changes to the ticket characteristic include multimedia changes or other presentation data, including text, sound (audio), animation, video, still pictures, or some combination thereof. The active ticket can have different states in it's life cycle, such as purchased, validated, invalid for certain events. Also the ticket service provider or issuer can send new control data to change the characteristic and/or contents of the active ticket.

18 Apr 2015TL;DR: A user study on people's current practices in combining multiple information devices in their everyday lives, ranging from pragmatic tasks to leisure activities, and identifies three levels of decisions that determine which devices are used in a particular situation.
Abstract: As people possess increasing numbers of information devices, situations where several devices are combined and used together have become more common. We present a user study on people's current practices in combining multiple information devices in their everyday lives, ranging from pragmatic tasks to leisure activities. Based on diaries and interviews of 14 participants, we characterize the usage practices of the most common devices, including smartphones, computers, tablets, and home media centers. We analyze 123 real-life multi-device use cases and identify the main usage patterns, including Sequential Use, Resource Lending, Related Parallel Use, and Unrelated Parallel Use. We discuss the practical challenges of using several information devices together. Finally, we identify three levels of decisions that determine which devices are used in a particular situation, including acquiring, making available, and selecting the devices for use.

07 Apr 2004TL;DR: In this paper, a system for authentication and authorization of a mobile terminal roaming to or in a foreign network different from its home network is provided, with the home network having an authentication-and authorization home server (AAAH), and the foreign network having a plurality of domains each of which comprises at least one local server for authentication, authorization and accounting.
Abstract: A apparatus, system, and network elements for authentication and authorization of a mobile terminal (MT) roaming to or in a foreign network different from its home network is provided, the home network having an authentication and authorization home server (AAAH), and the foreign network having a plurality of domains each of which comprises at least one local server (AAAL1, AAAL2) for authentication, authorization and accounting, each of which local servers being connected to at least one network access server (NAS) for handling access for mobile terminals roaming to or in the foreign network, wherein an authentication and authorization of the mobile terminal is performed whenever the mobile terminal performs a roaming, wherein the authentication and authorization is performed according to a procedure pursuant to one of a plurality of hierarchy levels, whereby a combination of network elements involved in the roaming determines the hierarchy level to be used.
