TL;DR: The requirement for a functional BCR-ABL gene in maintaining the leukemic phenotype and the feasibility of gene-targeted selective killing of neoplastic cells are demonstrated.
Abstract: To determine the role of the BCR-ABL gene in the proliferation of blast cells of patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia, leukemia blast cells were exposed to synthetic 18-mer oligodeoxynucleotides complementary to two identified BCR-ABL junctions. Leukemia colony formation was suppressed, whereas granulocyte-macrophage colony formation from normal marrow progenitors was unaffected. When equal proportions of normal marrow progenitors and blast cells were mixed, exposed to the oligodeoxynucleotides, and assayed for residual colony formation, the majority of residual cells were normal. These findings demonstrate the requirement for a functional BCR-ABL gene in maintaining the leukemic phenotype and the feasibility of gene-targeted selective killing of neoplastic cells.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the relationship between mergers and acquisitions, efficiency, and scale economies in the US life insurance industry and found that acquired firms achieve greater efficiency gains than firms that have not been involved in mergers or acquisitions.
Abstract: This paper examines the relationship between mergers and acquisitions, efficiency, and scale economies in the US life insurance industry. We estimate cost and revenue efficiency over the period 1988–1995 using data envelopment analysis (DEA). The Malmquist methodology is used to measure changes in efficiency over time. We find that acquired firms achieve greater efficiency gains than firms that have not been involved in mergers or acquisitions. Firms operating with non-decreasing returns to scale (NDRS) and financially vulnerable firms are more likely to be acquisition targets. Overall, mergers and acquisitions in the life insurance industry have had a beneficial effect on efficiency.

TL;DR: The politics of evaluative critical criticism has been studied extensively in the literature, see as mentioned in this paper for a survey. But the main focus of this paper is on evaluating Shakespeare's sonnets and critical problematics.

TL;DR: A novel approach for the identification of molecular markers to detect and characterize CTCs in peripheral blood and it is shown that gene expression profiles for C TCs may be used to distinguish normal donors from advanced cancer patients as well as to differentiate among the three different metastatic cancers.
Abstract: The present invention provides methods for the generation of global gene expression profiles in circulating tumor cells and the generation of a set of genes used for the diagnosis of cancer. The present invention further provides methods and means for diagnosing cancer by assessubg AGR2 or TFF3 expression in CTC's exposed to physiological stress.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that analyst recommendations mediate the relationship between corporate social performance and firm stock returns, and uncover an information-based underlying mechanism for the link between Corporate Social performance and financial performance.
Abstract: This study posits that security analysts heed corporate social performance information and factor it into their recommendations to general investors. In particular, as corporate social performance is often uncertain and ambiguous to general investors, analysts may serve as the informational pathway connecting corporate social performance to firm stock returns. Thus, we argue that analyst recommendations mediate the relationship between corporate social performance and firm stock returns. On the basis of not only a qualitative study with literature searches and interviews of stock analysts but also a quantitative study with two longitudinal samples of large firms, we find support for these arguments. Our findings uncover an information-based underlying mechanism for the link between corporate social performance and financial performance.
