Abstract
In recent years, great emphasis has been placed on the role of arterial stiffness in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Indeed, the assessment of arterial stiffness is increasingly used in the clinical assessment of patients. Although several papers have previously addressed the methodological issues concerning the various indices of arterial stiffness currently available, and their clinical applications, clinicians and researchers still report difficulties in selecting the most appropriate methodology for their specific use. This paper summarizes the proceedings of several meetings of the European Network for Non-invasive Investigation of Large Arteries and is aimed at providing an updated and practical overview of the most relevant methodological aspects and clinical applications in this area.

Aortic Stiffness and Central Wave Reflections Predict Outcome in Renal Transplant Recipients

TL;DR: Combined measurement of pulse wave velocity and central augmentation pressure may contribute to an accurate cardiovascular risk estimation in this heterogeneous population of renal transplant recipients.

Impact of metabolic indices on central artery stiffness: independent association of insulin resistance and glucose with aortic pulse wave velocity.

TL;DR: Post-challenge glucose and HOMA-IR are the most powerful metabolic predictors of arterial stiffness, implying hyperglycaemic excursion and insulin resistance play important roles in the pathogenesis of arteriosclerosis.

Psoriatic arthritis is associated with increased arterial stiffness in the absence of known cardiovascular risk factors: a case control study.

TL;DR: The results support the concept of psoriatic disease as a systemic condition involving not only the skin, joints and gastrointestinal tract but also arterial vessels and the involvement of the vascular system indicates the presence of pathogenetic mechanisms that could accelerate the atherosclerotic process in this condition.

Association of Small Artery Elasticity With Incident Cardiovascular Disease in Older Adults

TL;DR: In asymptomatic participants free of overt CVD, lower SAE added prognostic information for CVD , CHD, stroke, and heart failure events, while in asymPTomatic participants without symptomatic CVD higher SAE was not significantly related to CVD.

Roles of Arterial Stiffness and Blood Pressure in Hypertension-Associated Cognitive Decline in Healthy Adults.

TL;DR: In healthy adults, increased arterial stiffness is superior to blood pressure in predicting cognitive decline in all domains and in explaining the hypertension-executive function association.

Aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in hypertensive patients.

TL;DR: This study provides the first direct evidence that aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in patients with essential hypertension.
