Abstract
In recent years, great emphasis has been placed on the role of arterial stiffness in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Indeed, the assessment of arterial stiffness is increasingly used in the clinical assessment of patients. Although several papers have previously addressed the methodological issues concerning the various indices of arterial stiffness currently available, and their clinical applications, clinicians and researchers still report difficulties in selecting the most appropriate methodology for their specific use. This paper summarizes the proceedings of several meetings of the European Network for Non-invasive Investigation of Large Arteries and is aimed at providing an updated and practical overview of the most relevant methodological aspects and clinical applications in this area.

Can arterial stiffness parameters be measured in the sitting position

TL;DR: The close agreement between sitting and supine measurements suggests that both pulse wave velocity and augmentation index can be reliably measured in the sitting position.

Replacing Saturated Fat With Walnuts or Vegetable Oils Improves Central Blood Pressure and Serum Lipids in Adults at Risk for Cardiovascular Disease: A Randomized Controlled-Feeding Trial.

TL;DR: Cardiovascular benefits occurred with all moderate‐fat, high‐unsaturated‐fat diets, and the greater improvement in central diastolic blood pressure following the WD versus the oleic acid–replaced‐ALA diet indicates benefits of walnuts as a whole‐food replacement for SFA.

Early Identification of Cardiovascular Involvement in Patients With β-Thalassemia Major

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated left ventricular myocardial deformation and carotid arterial stiffness using 2-dimensional strain and echo-tracking in patients with asymptomatic β-thalassemia major (β-TM) without significant mycardial iron overload to determine whether early subclinical cardiovascular abnormalities would be detectable.

Low testosterone in men predicts impaired arterial elasticity and microvascular function

TL;DR: In men with few co-morbidities, lower serum testosterone level is associated with microvascular dysfunction and increased pulse wave reflections, mechanisms by which lower testosterone levels may confer increased cardiovascular risk.

Heart disease and changes in pulse wave velocity and pulse pressure amplification in the elderly over 80 years: the PARTAGE Study

TL;DR: In the very elderly, low brachial/aortic PPA is associated with higher prevalence of heart disease, independently of the presence of hypertension, diabetes or both.

Aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in hypertensive patients.

TL;DR: This study provides the first direct evidence that aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in patients with essential hypertension.
