TLDR
In this paper, the authors summarized the proceedings of several meetings of the European Network for Non-invasive Investigation of Large Arteries and aimed at providing an updated and practical overview of the most relevant methodological aspects and clinical applications in this area.Abstract:
In recent years, great emphasis has been placed on the role of arterial stiffness in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Indeed, the assessment of arterial stiffness is increasingly used in the clinical assessment of patients. Although several papers have previously addressed the methodological issues concerning the various indices of arterial stiffness currently available, and their clinical applications, clinicians and researchers still report difficulties in selecting the most appropriate methodology for their specific use. This paper summarizes the proceedings of several meetings of the European Network for Non-invasive Investigation of Large Arteries and is aimed at providing an updated and practical overview of the most relevant methodological aspects and clinical applications in this area.read more

Reduced Ascending Aortic Strain and Distensibility: Earliest Manifestations of Vascular Aging in Humans
Alban Redheuil,Wen Chung Yu,Colin O. Wu,Elie Mousseaux,Alain De Cesare,Raymond T. Yan,Nadjia Kachenoura,David A. Bluemke,Joao A.C. Lima +8 more
TL;DR: A dramatic decrease in AA distensibility is demonstrated before the fifth decade of life in individuals with diverse prevalence of risk factors free of overt cardiovascular disease, and compared with other measures of aortic function, the best markers of subclinical large artery stiffening were AAdistensibility in younger and aorti arch pulse wave velocity in older individuals.

Arterial stiffness, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular risk: Pathophysiologic mechanisms and emerging clinical indications.
Carlo Palombo,Michaela Kozakova +1 more
TL;DR: Arterial stiffness is emerging as an interesting tissue biomarker for cardiovascular risk stratification and estimation of the individual "biological age", and the evidence and caveat for clinical use of stiffness as surrogate marker of cardiovascular risk are summarized.

Arterial stiffness and pulse pressure in CKD and ESRD
Marie Briet,Marie Briet,Pierre Boutouyrie,Pierre Boutouyrie,Stéphane Laurent,Stéphane Laurent,Gérard M. London +6 more
TL;DR: Premature vascular aging and arterial stiffening are observed with progression of chronic kidney disease and in end-stage renal disease and this accelerated aging is associated with outward remodeling of large vessels, characterized by increased arterial radius not totally compensated for by artery wall hypertrophy.

TL;DR: In those older than age 50, systolic blood pressure of greater than 140 mm Hg is a more important cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factor than diastolic BP, and hypertension will be controlled only if patients are motivated to stay on their treatment plan.

Prevention of cardiovascular events with an antihypertensive regimen of amlodipine adding perindopril as required versus atenolol adding bendroflumethiazide as required, in the Anglo-Scandinavian Cardiac Outcomes Trial-Blood Pressure Lowering Arm (ASCOT-BPLA): a multicentre randomised controlled trial

TL;DR: The amlodipine-based regimen prevented more major cardiovascular events and induced less diabetes than the atenolol- based regimen, and these effects might not be entirely explained by better control of blood pressure.
