Abstract
In recent years, great emphasis has been placed on the role of arterial stiffness in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Indeed, the assessment of arterial stiffness is increasingly used in the clinical assessment of patients. Although several papers have previously addressed the methodological issues concerning the various indices of arterial stiffness currently available, and their clinical applications, clinicians and researchers still report difficulties in selecting the most appropriate methodology for their specific use. This paper summarizes the proceedings of several meetings of the European Network for Non-invasive Investigation of Large Arteries and is aimed at providing an updated and practical overview of the most relevant methodological aspects and clinical applications in this area.

Is Hypertension Associated With an Accelerated Aging of the Brain

TL;DR: Age-dependent effect of exposure and the fact that, to fully evaluate its impact, hypertension should be assessed several decades before the onset of dementia have made it remarkably more complex to study the role of hypertension on the brain.

Limitations of augmentation index in the assessment of wave reflection in normotensive healthy individuals.

TL;DR: negative AIx values derived from Type C waves should not be used as estimates of wave reflection magnitude and log WRI and Pb/Pf showed negative associations with age, were unrelated to height and did not differ significantly by gender.

Sub-clinical left and right ventricular dysfunction in patients with COPD

TL;DR: Both right and left ventricular dysfunction are present in patients with mild airways obstruction suggesting that cardiac co-morbidities commence early in the development of COPD.

Association of Assisted Reproductive Technologies With Arterial Hypertension During Adolescence

TL;DR: Premature vascular aging persisted in ART-conceived subjects, as evidenced by a roughly 25% impairment of flow-mediated dilation of the brachial artery and increased pulse-wave velocity and carotid intima-media thickness.

Arterial Stiffness as Surrogate End Point Needed Clinical Trials

TL;DR: This Brief Review will discuss experimental designs of randomized clinical trials demonstrating that a therapeutic strategy that normalizes arterial stiffness is more effective in preventing CV events than usual care, and suggest additional studies to demonstrate its value as surrogate end point.

Aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in hypertensive patients.

TL;DR: This study provides the first direct evidence that aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in patients with essential hypertension.
