Abstract
In recent years, great emphasis has been placed on the role of arterial stiffness in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Indeed, the assessment of arterial stiffness is increasingly used in the clinical assessment of patients. Although several papers have previously addressed the methodological issues concerning the various indices of arterial stiffness currently available, and their clinical applications, clinicians and researchers still report difficulties in selecting the most appropriate methodology for their specific use. This paper summarizes the proceedings of several meetings of the European Network for Non-invasive Investigation of Large Arteries and is aimed at providing an updated and practical overview of the most relevant methodological aspects and clinical applications in this area.

Relations Between Dairy Food Intake and Arterial Stiffness Pulse Wave Velocity and Pulse Pressure

TL;DR: Investigation of whether dairy food intake is associated with measures of arterial stiffness, including carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity and pulse pressure found a linear decrease, whereas no association between dairy food consumption and lipid levels was found.

Ageing and microvasculature

TL;DR: Data from experimental models indicate that decreased nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability, caused by impaired eNOS activity and NO inactivation, is one of the causes responsible for age-related microvascular endothelial dysfunction.

A systematic literature review of the effect of carotid atherosclerosis on local vessel stiffness and elasticity

TL;DR: Carotid artery mechanics are influenced by the presence of atherosclerotic plaque and the clinical applicability of carotid elasticity measures may be limited by the lack of reference values and standardized techniques.

Blood vessel remodeling and physical inactivity in humans

TL;DR: In vivo evidence relating to the impact of local and systemic models of physical inactivity on conduit arteries, resistance vessels, and the microcirculation in humans suggests that a rapid inward structural remodeling of vessels occurs in response to physical in activity.

Aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in hypertensive patients.

TL;DR: This study provides the first direct evidence that aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in patients with essential hypertension.
