Abstract
In recent years, great emphasis has been placed on the role of arterial stiffness in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Indeed, the assessment of arterial stiffness is increasingly used in the clinical assessment of patients. Although several papers have previously addressed the methodological issues concerning the various indices of arterial stiffness currently available, and their clinical applications, clinicians and researchers still report difficulties in selecting the most appropriate methodology for their specific use. This paper summarizes the proceedings of several meetings of the European Network for Non-invasive Investigation of Large Arteries and is aimed at providing an updated and practical overview of the most relevant methodological aspects and clinical applications in this area.

Systemic Vascular Dysfunction in Patients With Chronic Mountain Sickness

TL;DR: Patients with CMS show marked systemic vascular dysfunction that may predispose them to increased systemic cardiovascular morbidity and structural and functional alterations contribute to this problem that might predispose these patients to premature cardiovascular disease.

Ambulatory arterial stiffness index, pulse wave velocity and augmentation index--interchangeable or mutually exclusive measures?

TL;DR: The present study examines three different measures of arterial stiffness – pulse wave velocity, wave reflection and AASI in a large hypertensive population, comparing their determinants and intercorrelations, both unadjusted and adjusted for confounders, and proposes that the measures should not be considered interchangeable.

Arterial Stiffness and Hypertension in the Elderly.

TL;DR: This review will address the issues of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of arterial stiffening in elderly hypertensives, the consequences of arterials stiffening on central systolic and pulse pressures and target organs, the methodology for measuring arterial stiffness, central pulse pressure and wave reflection, and how the concepts of EVA and SUPERNOVA apply to the detection of organ damage and prevention of CV complications.

Can assisted reproductive technologies cause adult-onset disease? Evidence from human and mouse.

TL;DR: The current epidemiological evidence that ART-conceived children have detectable differences in blood pressure, body composition, and glucose homeostasis is presented and it is proposed that the mouse system can be used to adequately study, modify, and improve outcomes for ART children.

Aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in hypertensive patients.

TL;DR: This study provides the first direct evidence that aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in patients with essential hypertension.
