Abstract
In recent years, great emphasis has been placed on the role of arterial stiffness in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Indeed, the assessment of arterial stiffness is increasingly used in the clinical assessment of patients. Although several papers have previously addressed the methodological issues concerning the various indices of arterial stiffness currently available, and their clinical applications, clinicians and researchers still report difficulties in selecting the most appropriate methodology for their specific use. This paper summarizes the proceedings of several meetings of the European Network for Non-invasive Investigation of Large Arteries and is aimed at providing an updated and practical overview of the most relevant methodological aspects and clinical applications in this area.

Effectiveness of a smartphone application for improving healthy lifestyles, a randomized clinical trial (EVIDENT II): study protocol.

TL;DR: Confirmation that the new technologies are useful for promoting healthier lifestyles and that their effects are beneficial in terms of arterial aging will have important clinical implications, and may contribute to generalize their application in favor of improved population health.

In vivo characterization of the aortic wall stress-strain relationship.

TL;DR: The transition strain was shown to be a pressure independent parameter that can be clinically relevant and noninvasively measured using ultrasound-based motion estimation techniques and can assess the stress-strain relationship of the aortic wall locally in vivo and quantify important parameters for the detection and characterization of vascular disease.

Local carotid stiffness and intima-media thickness assessment by a novel ultrasound-based system in essential hypertension.

TL;DR: The proposed B-mode ultrasound-based system is a reliable and user-friendly method that could serve to investigate the predictive value of CS for cardiovascular events in future large clinical studies.

Inverse relationship between physical activity and arterial stiffness in adults with hypertension.

TL;DR: Hitual physical activity of all intensities is associated with reduced arterial stiffness among adults with hypertension.

Aortic stiffness and cardiovascular risk in type 2 diabetes

TL;DR: Evidence is provided that aortic PWV is a forceful independent marker of cardiovascular disease in diabetic patients, as it has already been demonstrated in hypertensive individuals and Prospective trials are needed to assess the improvement in cardiovascular risk prediction for widespread use of aortIC PWV in diabetic Patients.

Aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in hypertensive patients.

TL;DR: This study provides the first direct evidence that aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in patients with essential hypertension.
