TLDR
In this paper, the authors summarized the proceedings of several meetings of the European Network for Non-invasive Investigation of Large Arteries and aimed at providing an updated and practical overview of the most relevant methodological aspects and clinical applications in this area.Abstract:
In recent years, great emphasis has been placed on the role of arterial stiffness in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Indeed, the assessment of arterial stiffness is increasingly used in the clinical assessment of patients. Although several papers have previously addressed the methodological issues concerning the various indices of arterial stiffness currently available, and their clinical applications, clinicians and researchers still report difficulties in selecting the most appropriate methodology for their specific use. This paper summarizes the proceedings of several meetings of the European Network for Non-invasive Investigation of Large Arteries and is aimed at providing an updated and practical overview of the most relevant methodological aspects and clinical applications in this area.read more

Decreased aortic elasticity in healthy 11-year-old children exposed to tobacco smoke.

TL;DR: In this paper, the relationship between passive smoking and arterial elasticity in children was assessed by using M-mode ultrasound imaging based on measurements of arterial diameter changes during the cardiac cycle.

Objectively measured physical activity and sedentary-time are associated with arterial stiffness in Brazilian young adults
Bernardo L. Horta,Beatriz D'Agord Schaan,Renata Moraes Bielemann,Carolina Avila Vianna,Denise Petrucci Gigante,Fernando C. Barros,Ulf Ekelund,Pedro C. Hallal +7 more
TL;DR: Physical activity was inversely related to PWV in young adults, whereas sedentary time was positively associated, and associations were only partially mediated by WC and DBP.

Circulating Dephospho-Uncarboxylated Matrix Gla-Protein Is Associated With Kidney Dysfunction and Arterial Stiffness.

TL;DR: CKD is associated with increased (inactive) dp-ucMGP, a vitamin K-dependent inhibitor of vascular calcification, which correlates with large artery stiffness, and further studies are needed to assess whether vitamin K2 supplementation represents a suitable therapeutic strategy to prevent or reduce arterial stiffening in CKD.

Changes in Arterial Stiffness But Not Carotid Intimal Thickness in Acromegaly
Angela N Paisley,Moulinath Banerjee,M Rezai,R E Schofield,S Balakrishnannair,Annie Herbert,Jeremy A L Lawrance,Peter J Trainer,John Kennedy Cruickshank +8 more
TL;DR: Patients with acromegaly had independently and significantly increased aortic PWV as evidence of arterial stiffening but unaltered carotid IMT compared with controls, also influenced by age and systolic BP.

T-Cell–Derived miRNA-214 Mediates Perivascular Fibrosis in Hypertension
Ryszard Nosalski,Ryszard Nosalski,Mateusz Siedlinski,Laura Denby,Eilidh McGinnigle,Michal Nowak,Aurelie Nguyen Dinh Cat,Laura Medina-Ruiz,Marco Cantini,Dominik Skiba,Dominik Skiba,Grzegorz Wilk,Grzegorz Osmenda,Julie Rodor,Manuel Salmerón-Sánchez,Gerard J. Graham,Pasquale Maffia,Pasquale Maffia,Delyth Graham,Andrew H. Baker,Tomasz J. Guzik,Tomasz J. Guzik +21 more
TL;DR: T-cell–derived miR-214 controls pathological perivascular fibrosis in hypertension mediated by T cell recruitment and local profibrotic cytokine release and is directly correlated to pulse wave velocity as a measure of vascular stiffness.

TL;DR: In those older than age 50, systolic blood pressure of greater than 140 mm Hg is a more important cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factor than diastolic BP, and hypertension will be controlled only if patients are motivated to stay on their treatment plan.

Prevention of cardiovascular events with an antihypertensive regimen of amlodipine adding perindopril as required versus atenolol adding bendroflumethiazide as required, in the Anglo-Scandinavian Cardiac Outcomes Trial-Blood Pressure Lowering Arm (ASCOT-BPLA): a multicentre randomised controlled trial

TL;DR: The amlodipine-based regimen prevented more major cardiovascular events and induced less diabetes than the atenolol- based regimen, and these effects might not be entirely explained by better control of blood pressure.
