Abstract
In recent years, great emphasis has been placed on the role of arterial stiffness in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Indeed, the assessment of arterial stiffness is increasingly used in the clinical assessment of patients. Although several papers have previously addressed the methodological issues concerning the various indices of arterial stiffness currently available, and their clinical applications, clinicians and researchers still report difficulties in selecting the most appropriate methodology for their specific use. This paper summarizes the proceedings of several meetings of the European Network for Non-invasive Investigation of Large Arteries and is aimed at providing an updated and practical overview of the most relevant methodological aspects and clinical applications in this area.

Decreased aortic elasticity in healthy 11-year-old children exposed to tobacco smoke.

TL;DR: In this paper, the relationship between passive smoking and arterial elasticity in children was assessed by using M-mode ultrasound imaging based on measurements of arterial diameter changes during the cardiac cycle.

Circulating Dephospho-Uncarboxylated Matrix Gla-Protein Is Associated With Kidney Dysfunction and Arterial Stiffness.

TL;DR: CKD is associated with increased (inactive) dp-ucMGP, a vitamin K-dependent inhibitor of vascular calcification, which correlates with large artery stiffness, and further studies are needed to assess whether vitamin K2 supplementation represents a suitable therapeutic strategy to prevent or reduce arterial stiffening in CKD.

Changes in Arterial Stiffness But Not Carotid Intimal Thickness in Acromegaly

TL;DR: Patients with acromegaly had independently and significantly increased aortic PWV as evidence of arterial stiffening but unaltered carotid IMT compared with controls, also influenced by age and systolic BP.

Aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in hypertensive patients.

TL;DR: This study provides the first direct evidence that aortic stiffness is an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in patients with essential hypertension.
